5 Ways to Rake in the Dough by Blogging

Everyone who has ever started a blog has grand visions of how they will earn thousands of dollars and retire in just a few short months to travel the world. How many of those people have actually achieved these big dreams? Very, very, very few. Is it possible? Maybe, but it's definitely possible to make money through blogging if you know how to do it.

The problem for most bloggers is they focus on the wrong things. They enjoy writing about their favorite topics without really creating a game plan for the blog. Without an action plan, they will see very little return on their investment. Now that you know what everyone is doing wrong, it's time to learn what YOU can do to make the big bucks with your little blog.

Become a Sales Machine

Gone are the days when blogging was about letting people get to know you or when you just wrote out your thoughts for others to read. Blogging today is about selling something, whether that is your business, a product or service or just selling people on your reputation.

One of the key ways to make money with a blog is to focus on selling something specific. Many people use their blog to sell a product. The posts are geared towards people who have a problem that the item will solve. An example of this is when a person gets a puppy and needs a wireless fence. The wireless fence company can create all kinds of posts on caring for and training a puppy along with articles about how wireless fencing works and why their fence product is the best.

Some so-called experts advise you to never write a blog post on your products because it comes across as selling, and you want the blog to be informational. The answer to that is "Do you believe in your product?" If so, writing about it provides valuable information to the consumer. Just make sure it's not all you write about.

Get Others to Sell for You

Maybe you don't want to be so over-the-top with your blog. You may not want it to sell your product, but you still want to make money. How can you do that? With pay-per-click, of course. When you allow these ads on your blog, you have continual opportunity to make money every time someone visits your site.

You'll have critics who tell you that you're selling out by allowing these ads. However, it's no different than magazines that allow ads or television shows that include commercials. No one thinks they are less reputable because ads are included, and no one will think that about your blog.

Market Award-winning Products

What if you don't have a business of your own to promote through your blog? You can still make money through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is where you promote someone else's products for a cut in the sale or a commission. You'll hear that affiliate marketing is dead or it's not a good way to make money in 2016.

Contrary to the naysayers, affiliate marketing is alive. The difference is now you have big-name companies entering the industry, so individuals are going to have to up their game. According to the Affstat 2015 Affiliate Marketing Bechmark Report, over 66 percent of affiliate marketers use search engine optimization while another 57 percent utilized blogging. Only 25 percent used video to drive traffic even though this is a growing area in online marketing. Offline marketing was only a small portion of marketing for affiliates, which means they didn't bring their online business into the "real world." For those who capitalize on the marketing misses of other affiliates, they could make big money while also blogging for the affiliate products.

Brag on Yourself

What's the best product you can sell through your blog? You. Use your blog for self-promotion if you want to see your income increase. It doesn't matter whether you have a brick and mortar store or you work from home as an independent contractor or freelancer. Your blog is a fantastic way for people to get to know you and to help you develop an online reputation as someone of authority in your field.

No, you don't literally get to brag on yourself, but you can prove you know your business by providing valuable information. It doesn't even matter whether you've been in your industry 15 years or 15 months. You know more than someone else out there, and that is the person you market to in your blog. Provide insider tips for others in your field or tell your own story. Do research on questions your consumers want answered and tell it in a blog. Remember that the person your audience goes to for information is the one they will go to when they need the service you provide.

Sell Complimentary Services

A business owner can easily branch out by using their blog to sell complimentary services. Look at the number of professional consultants who offer an educational course or e-book that goes with their main service. Instead of using the blog to promote their main source of income, they use it to tell others about this complimentary service they offer.

A great example is a business consultant who has written an e-book. While his website promotes his consulting business, he may not feel that it's appropriate to mention his book. Instead, he creates a blog which discusses the topic of his book and markets it to an interested audience.

While you may not be able to write about your kids' antics, the adorable tricks you've taught your puppy or your perceptions of your favorite sports teams, you can use blogging to earn a reasonable income. Even if you aren't one of the lucky ones to garner four or even five figures per month with a blog, you can make money if you know how to capitalize on the options available to you.
