Digital marketer starting out

So basically for the past week I've been researching and learning about Facebook ads/Google adwords/SEO etc and now I feel like Im ready to work with a business to provide them a service.

I've been trying to find clients through Upworks, however, everyone seems to be wanting experience. Ive also tried looking on Craigslist with no success. Are there any other platforms that you guys have used in the past to get clients?

Thanks!

Yes, people want experience. They don't want someone that has studied up on it for a week.

There are a couple ways to get experience:

    1. Offer to do free work for someone (or several people) in exchange for a review. You can use this to show experience.

    2. Do it for yourself. Find a product you can be an affiliate for and do the services on your own site. Track your results and once you start getting them you may be ready to help others.

    3. Combine 1 and 2.

That doesn't answer my question. I never said I was going to charge for my services. I asked where I can find platforms where I can find people who need digital marketing help? Sites such as Upwork, Craigslist etc

Sorry gypmedia, I didn't know you were not going to charge clients for your services.

I would suggest you advertise your free services right here (Warrior Forum) in the classifieds section or the Warriors for hire section. You could also create a web site where you give your services away and put that URL in your WF sig file. There are lots of freebie-seeking members here that will try your services for nothing.

As far as platforms for people that are not going to charge their clients, I don't think Upwork, Freelancer, etc are going to be much help. All the vendors there charge for their services.

Agreed. I would always recommend that a service provider have their own website. To me, it's a lot more professional and enables service providers to charge more of a premium price. Of course, the beginning will consist of working for free/cheap to gain testimonials and experience.

I've hired well over 100 freelancers from oDesk/Upwork/Elance over the years. You'll see that most of them gradually increase their rate from $0 on up as they gain feedback. I can tell you the two things I see right off the bat on Upwork are hours worked and success rate. For most projects, I rarely even read those that don't have hours and a good success rate. It's not uncommon to get 100+ applications for SEO and marketing services. This is again why I agree with branding yourself as a premium provider (long term) on your own site rather than fight to the bottom mentality associated with freelance sites.

    Mark is right.

Customers are spending their hard earned cash for results. They want to know that you can give them bang for the buck. You've got to be able to prove your worth.

Try hiring yourself. How do you do that?

I would suggest you find your own product (plr, or licensed, or MRR) and attempt to sell it via Facebook ads, Google adwords, SEO using your own expertise. If you are successful and make money, you will have a case study you can share with others. If you're not successful, you will know that you need some further experience and learning before you're ready to take on new clients.

What? You've read about SEO, Facebook ads, and Adwords for a week and now you want to take on clients?

Why should a business give you their hard earned money when there are hundreds of more experienced and qualified providers out there? Providers with real world experience and have done more than read about it for a week.
