Hey neshaword,

In the words of Frank Kern, "Find out what people want and give it to them."

In order to "give it to them" you have to know where they are. People watch movie reviews on YouTube. A YouTube movie review channel is the FAR better option.

You said "I can offer a quite unique view." If that's true, and people like your 'unique view,' and you can get in front of them, you'll do well.

I've been thinking about YouTube for quite some time. Had a client I used to write movie fact facts for. He had to pay a narrator with you can't believe voice. But, I see it happening with my kids. They watch those videos with funny faces and brilliant voices. My concern is that I'm gonna look like a dancing bear in front of the screen. In case you haven't noticed by now, I'm unconventionally handsome, LOL.

How I'm gonna look? How I'm gonna sound? I would like to write reviews and comments with my blog/website visitors. Yet, you said it yourself. I can't make people love my way.

Huh, I need to lose some weight. Not gonna wear a wig, that's for sure, LOL.

Try social media (Facebook and Twitter) where memes spread like wildfire. If you're creative, you should be able to grab their attention.

One way around especially the first part would be to build a relationship with someone that makes fun, high impact, motion-packed videos. This way, you can simply rely on what you're going to say. With some simple sound editing software, you can tweak the pitch / tone of your voice slightly to make it more appealing (if you really have to), and you don't have to worry about what you look like. Flood the video reviews with snippets, pictures and moving graphics to keep the viewer interested (eg speak over a video of the trailer).

Also, if you do go with that option, I would have a look at purchasing some royalty free music. Use the same track on all of your videos so you almost build a 'branded sound' and people recognise it when they see it.

Just some ideas.

Very interesting. You got my attention.

Remember seeing my kids watching this parody videos on YouTube. Millions and millions of views. Insane. But then, have to admit, the production was very serious.

I never made such a site but will tackle a few things. First you say you can offer a unique view which may be exactly what you need to compete with the big players and who knows with a unique view and great content maybe one day you can compete with them(think big).

Also you said - "Is a YouTube movie review channel the better option". I would do both and have them link to each other.

And to help you get a jumpstart unless you are going to build your own unique site there are at least several wordpress movie review site themes available just search for them on google. I forget where I saw them. They may be on the envato marketplace.

2) Right again. I was blind and stupid. Watching the big boys IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. I completely neglected the alternative sites. Time to ask Google to help me out again.

I spend 2 hours yesterday on YouTube
and there is no other video site i would do that,

so yes, correct, go there do your reviews

and also buy some cheap 1cent per click ads
on your competitors and review products sites

and get those visitors as well. the works!

You're right Chris. If you gonna offer a "unique" experience, then it has to be truly unique. Yet, the simplest way is to write a review and wait for the feedback. If I go into video review waters will have to make sure I'm not violating copyrights or something. But, I'm sure there are these free promo video and trailers of movies. Does DMCA say something about taking screenshots of the movies? Those are the things I need to check.

I would make a youtube channel and once it gets popular I would create a website (claim the domain right away though...).

Now to gain traction with your youtube channel I would suggest looking at news. Like RIGHT at the moment when a film comes out go ahead and post a video. Be the first!

You can also go for uncompetitive keywords (less popular movies)...

When you talk about the need to be the first one to comment the upcoming new movie, it makes a perfect sense. But, this second part of your comment is very intriguing. When you say less popular movies and "uncompetitive" keywords, what do you mean please? What is the catch with these words? Do you mean there's no SEO heat on them, and I can actually do something about it? Thx in advance. Don't leave me in the dark please.

I second this...

The keyword diversity is amazing and the different categories/playlists you can create content for is also good..

BUT.... I'd start off with my site.. remember, your site is your homebase..The thing u have most control over. Build that with your channel at the same time.

I launched a movie review site as one of my first projects, and one of my personal favorites. I just couldn't get the traffic.

I tried promoting it on facebook with contests for free tickets, movie theater gift cards and dvds but never had any luck.

I still try to relaunch it every now and then because it is my favorite site and I think my "twist" on it has great potential. Just can't get the visitors.

Hey there so what about these big authority sites?

To me there more of a challenge but no impossible to out rank etc!

I have outranked and outclassed some big sites in a niche before you just have to be

bigger, better and more attractive!

It's simple you:

produce better quality work
produce better engagement and interaction levels
produce more backlinks and authority
produce something unique but still focusing on the core fundamentals of the niche
produce more effort and work and consistency then them!

Half the big sites on google have no clue about SEO, sure they have things like links or whatever!

But with on page seo, off page seo, a natural link profile etc etc you can beat them
