'To see is to believe' goes the adage. Is this really true?
After years of research and even personal experience, it has been concluded that human brains are more easily triggered by what the eyes see owing to the fact that almost half of the human mind is dedicated to process just visual information.

About 65 per cent of the human population can be categorised as 'visual learners', which is a term that implies people who learn better through vision. This scientific fact can be assessed to be true in daily life. Even children are better able to describe what they see, more than what they hear or read. Recent studies have shown that the human mind is able to retain 10 per cent more information that it gains through seeing than via reading.

Based on the ways in which the human minds operate, infographics easily qualify as the best marketing baits. Latest surveys have shown that infographics generate 47 per cent more clicks and openings than texts.

What are infographics?
Infographics, as the name implies, are the representations of information via graphics and illustrations. With graphics, the possibilities are endless. Depending on the visual representation of the content, infographics can boost sales and make marketing campaigns more successful as compared to the traditional trends of using more words and fewer colours.

The use of infographics has increased tremendously over the past decade as it continues to muster attractions owing to the fact that it saves the target audience from thorough reading. Also, infographics help businesses and marketers in sustaining a healthy social media reputation by being featured on various social media sites.
What are the advantages of infographics?

In the contemporary world, where a considerable part of the population is surfing the web around the clock either for work, leisure, entertainment or all three, infographics are easily the most successful marketing tools. Infographics have the ability to captivate and spark interest in the target audience almost immediately. In fact, many recent surveys that have been conducted on the most frequent searches, infographics have been observed to take 80 per cent share of all the searches being carried out worldwide.

Following are some of the benefits you can get by using infographics to stimulate a positive growth of your business and/or marketing campaign:

1. Infographics enchant
Without a doubt, colours and illustrations are said to have the most profound effect on the human mind. Based on the design and layout, which can be enhanced in a number of different ways, infographics can help you acquire attention of the target audience by articulating your message by representing it visually.

2. Seeing is easier
Facilitating your recipients is the best way to achieve the desired results from your marketing campaign. Especially if the target audience is online, infographics is the best marketing medium as it will save the receivers from reading through the details, which can be hectic and tedious for some. Reading the information is one of the many tasks that most people avoid when surfing the web, hence, texts usually gather very few number of clicks. Seeing, in contrast, takes up lesser share of attention. Almost 2 out of 5 people remember what they see instead of what they read, making infographics more successful at drawing attention.

3. Elaborate representation
By using the right amount of colour and by employing the right type of visuals in your infographics, you can represent your brand, product and/or service in the most economical way. You can do away with the exhausting, wordy details about your company. With well-designed infographics, you can inform your target audience about your business, its objectives and mode of operations.

4. Lesser complexity
Using flow charts, bar graphs and other graphics, you can simplify the information you want your recipients to collect from your marketing. For example, instead of incorporating long paragraphs and bullet points, you can add pictures to represent the various steps involved in placing an order for your product and/or service. Infographics also aid in memory, so that your clients have a visual image of the information you articulate using graphics.

5. Overcome language barriers
Pictures and illustrations are an excellent solution to the language barrier that hinders business with customers abroad. Infographics, being self-explanatory, can be easily understood by people across the world irrespective of the languages they comprehend. By looking at well-designed infographics, they can get complete idea about the message you are trying to give to your target population.

6. Infographics do better on social media
Latest stats have revealed that infographics are a hit over social media when compared to textual marketing techniques. This fuels growth of businesses and expands the horizons for online marketing. Facebook users, in particular, share pictures more actively than links and videos. Infographics on various Facebook pages gather 84 per cent of the total Facebook clicks and 35 per cent of the total clicks over Twitter.

7. Enhances SEO
Google's 'PageRank'algorithm will place your website on a higher position based on the number of visits your website gets in a certain period of time. Since infographics are popular over social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many more, they are easily portable. This increases the chances for your infographics of going viral online and to produce a burst of visits to your website. Hence, infographics can take you several places higher in Google's index and increase the number of potential recipients of your content.

8. Less expensive
With infographics you are saved from the expense involved in hiring a team of writers. There are a number of free tools available online that you can make use of to produce the best infographics for your marketing campaign. You can also choose to design infographics for your publicity without a professional designer with the availability of these easy-to-use software, which also guide you in the process.

Is this a question or discussion?

I'd love to discuss using infographics to fuel growth and how forum members are using infographics.

I'm sure all your points are really valid, although I agree it sounds like most have been floating around online on plenty of forums and blogs before. I think I might search the forum for some discussions on this very topic as I too believe there is a great deal of merit in the old infographic.
