Figure out how to market FIRST

Lately there have been tons of " how to get traffic to " " Is --- a good way to promote my website "

UGH

Before you even buy a domain ; create a small marketing plan.

This can be based on four things:

1. Who's your target customer
2. Where do they hang out
3. How much will it cost to reach them?
4. What can you market to them?

So for a blog about fishing ;

Your target market is fisherman ( duh)
They hang out at lakes and rivers ( again duh)
They hang out within fishing clubs/ groups
They hang out on forums about specific types of fishing -- I.E bass or fly fishing.
It may cost close to $300 to promote them via offline and online advertising each week or even each day if using facebook
Facebook is great, branding on shirts is great, guest blogging is great, mailing list are great , as well as a printed flyer in the mail promoting events, word of mouth if your blog is awesome.

STOP waiting til the last second to figure out how to market your blog, business or services. Think about that first!

If you determine your method of reaching people before building you enable yourself to increase your chances of success.

And successful graduates post threads like "I have a list of a zillion ______, now what?" and the like.

"Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day.

Teach a man to fish, and he'll spend every weekend drinking beer and swapping lies with other fishermen."

Here's a clue for you ladies 'hooked up' with anglers...

Freshly caught fish do not come from the water perfectly cleaned and wrapped in butcher paper.
