I've been messing around on the 'net for a long time. I've been trying to make money online for a long time also, but never actually made anything. I think I got one check from Google adsense a few years ago from a successful I ran, but that was it.
I've set up wordpress blogs and thought I would blog about things, but lost interest in about...2 hours. So now I have 32 domain names, some soon to expire, and 2 hosting services paid for a year (don't ask...), but still don't REALLY know what to do. I am a designer, can code WP/Joomla/EE templates without problems but still haven't made any money. For a while I have been debating getting into this seriously, and what would 'seriously' mean? Do I buy ebooks? Done that... Buy software? Done that... Read forums? Done that... So I became a little bitter. I think my ego got the best of me and I became a skeptic of EVERYTHING I saw about making money online. Being bitter I decided to ditch the idea of making money online and try to start a business offline. I pushed hard to sell some templates and all the software licenses I had accumulated over the years. Soon I had about $500 in my paypal account. I proved to myself that if I actually tried, I could make money online. So today, after paying some bills, I decided I would get serious. I took my paypal debit card to Walmart and bought a netbook that will be only used for internet marketing. (why? numerous reason including portability, getting all the SEO software off of my XP bootcamp onto a machine I can use while designing, etc..) and joined the 'war room.' I am soon to buy an ebook but can't figure which one I want to start with. (★★★HOT-★★★ eBay & AdSense Bootcamp - Make $5-$20 Per Site Residual Income! or ►►► FINALLY! Keyword Research Explained Step by Step. Don't Get Stuck With Bad Keywords Ever Again) Anyway, I look forward to learning, sharing, and making great relationships with fellow warriors. |

I just don't know how to start, I have the knowledge of SEO, I know about article marketing, I can do Web/Graphic Design, I have written ebooks, I have setup a blog, I can do affiliate marketing, I can do niche marketing, I can do PPC, I can do lots and lots of stuff but I just can't put it together. I make money when I do one of them but then I stop doing it because I am bored. ![]() I haven't even updated my blog in like a month and that's hurting my readership alot. I also know the main problem I have, I try to do lots of stuff at the same time. Now I am deciding on starting one thing at a time and making money from it and once I am finished with one I will go ahead and do the second. Hope we can get serious.

However, the amount of actions people did after the 'whole' workshop was almost zero. The 'graduates' just simply gave up after editing just a 'squeeze page' (no focus on driving traffic, optimizing their webpages, etc) and went back to their normal lives. Believe me, I almost became one of them when I knew I had no choice but to succeed. And yeah, eventually, it resulted in proving myself wrong. Which I believe many of us, IM-ers were in the first place. | |

I saw the following in a post the other day: "FOCUS" is the acronym for the phrase Follow One Course Until Success. If you fail once try again."
I keep telling this myself when it gets overwhelming! - and keep focused! |

Well, you need a direction. You can continue making and selling templates. That is pretty huge.
You need to figure out whether you will be selling information, creating templates, marketing CPA offers, etc. There are countless ways to make money. |

I'd say that the biggest thing holding me back is doing a lot of things at the same time.
Now I am trying to drop off a lot of stuff and do one thing at a time.

I can completely understand where you're coming from. I started my IM efforts almost two years ago. Wrote a book, marketed it, didn't make any money - took 6 months off (back to the day job), then tried it all over again. Last year I even managed to make $5,000 off a product with a JV partner.
But, then I got distracted again and it was another 8 months before I did any more IM projects. Now, I'm back to the drawing board and getting serious. Sometimes, you just have to buckle down, recognize that you already have what it takes and go for it. Focus is a big one too - when I learned to break down my ideas into easily digestible chunks, I became infinitely more productive. |

Yup,
I know exactly what you mean. I'm coming at this now with a fierce vengeance. I'm pretty proud of myself the way I've been working the past week. Good luck to all of us who are trying to put a flame under our butts and put in a consistent effort. |

I first heard about AM four years ago, but couldn't figure out what it had to do with me at all.
Well, that's changing. F-A-S-T. In short, I have been advertising affiliate offers on my blogs (on and off) for years... and, apart with Amazon, sold NOTHING. So I started creating specialist sites just recently using some of the domains I had collected over the past couple of years, just to see what happens. First site: a total zombie. Not sold anything. tesolteachers.com (sorry, I don't want the link to highlight that comment! Second site: I decided to go with what had worked before (amazon!)... and built a site around Asus Netbooks which are really cool little machines. So far, since going live with the site (as a relaunch) I've had 3 commissions ... and the site is just beginning to pick up traffic. I have no idea yet if the site will be successful as August has been a slow month, ... What's the difference? The first time I set up a blog... I targeted good keywords but not for people interested in purchasing stuff... so even though the blog is high in its placement, traffic is minimal, and its not motivated purchasing at all. The second blog has a much better keyword but (BUT) the keyword has a large amount of traffic and the competition is much stronger... so my site is still poorly ranked for the key terms. Perhaps I bit off more than I can chew... I initially had success with Amazon, so I decided to try their service because they were trusted, I didn't have to sign up, and I already had some success. I have no idea how this strategy will work out... but getting a commission on products, esp. larger ticket items can be attractive. So, I think I am able to take the stuff I knew before, add it to what I know now, and see how it goes. I wouldn't have tried if it hadn't been for my friend, Steve, ... wonder if he'll see this? i started about a year ago in this, diffrence is i love my day job as a sound and light technician in mallorca spain which means i only work nights and i needed somthing to do during the day so i started im, When i started i went straight into
info overload after info overload comes trying to compete in a saturated market <<< again pointless to the beginner almost impossible till you learn the basics. however now i have 7 niche websites and 3 are starting to make good money, and i have one of them ranking for over 14 buying keywords on google for 1 product, its doing well anyway back to the point, Find the smallest niche you can and over run the hole front page of google for as many keywords as you can. YOU WILL MAKE SALES EVENTUALLY but be patient. hopfully this post will encourage |

This happens a lot it seems. I know I suffered from information paralysis at one time. Seems like you see so many different methods of making money online. You look at one, then buy and ebook on another, etc, etc, etc....
You read all the books and maybe you try this or try that, but don't see immediate results so you just move one to something else. This happens all the time. In fact it even happened to me a few years ago. Then one day something occurred to me. As long as I'm doing something every day, then I'm making progress. If I write a blog post, if I build some links, if I submit some articles or create a squidoo lens or hubpage, what ever I do I'm making progress. So I started forcing myself to get out there and make a little progress every day. I set myself up with a workout partner, which happens to be someone I met right here on this forum, we kept each other on track and moving forward even though a lot of times we did not even understand why we were doing a certain task, we just did it. As time went along, I started to see other opportunities for earning money online. I found potential methods to increase traffic and to make more affiliate sells. It seems like the more I did this the more I learned. I would read a book every once in a while, but for the most part I spent my limited time on tasks that would either get me traffic or increase the amount of content I controlled online. That all started about 2 years ago or maybe a little longer. I still had the day job as I had this last obstacle to not really believing I could earn a living at this Internet Marketing thing. Well I lost the day job so I had to keep on building my internet income. I haven't looked back sense. I work when I want and on what I want. I make the rules for my life. And it all started with just doing something. Getting an education is great and I urge everyone to learn the basics of SEO, copyrighting, etc.., but at some point you have to just sit down the books and start doing what is in the books. If it does not work out today, the work you do today may just work out tomorrow or next week. The power of the Internet is that you work today, but that work you do has the potential to earn you money for years. I don't even know where some of the checks that come are for any more, but they still come. Bruce |

One vital factor that helped me out a lot was the goal setting and time management. I never really ignored these factors, but in the past I did not take them as serious as I do now. You have to sit down, take your time, relax, and map out your long and short term goals. It made it so much easier on me when I knew the direction I was heading what to do for the day. It made me actually look forward to the reward.
I knew for example that I had to work on the "piece of the puzzle" for 2 hours on Monday. When I am done, I check it off my list - and I do the same for every day of the week. But my schedule is all planned for the whole week before I start. At the end of the week, I always reward myself by ordering a pizza and watching my favorite movie or something like that. If you want to work on your business for 2 hours a day - then stick to that. Now, at the beginning it will be very difficult - but with everything else if you are consistent - it will soon become a habit or daily chore. Don't try to do too much in one day. That was one of my main problems I had to break. I would end up unorganized and things seemed to get behind - because I missed out on doing my normal house chores. Another thing I start doing that helped me out is outsourcing. I would not recommend running your entire business by yourself. It will save you a ton of time and frustration if you can get other experts to do your copywriting, graphics, programming, blogging, or what ever you need done. Just wanted to give you my past problems and how I overcame it - and that my friend is the Truth. |

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement on this. I am still focused on this.
Being unemployed (I work as a DJ one night a week) I have a ton of time. My biggest 'roadblock' was sticking with it. I also am not a salesman but have learned how to be over the years. I think the first sites I want to tackle would be adsense sites. I want to get them up and running and then move to affiliate marketing, etc... Just do it... |

Pretty excited. Just bought Market Samurai and a script that 'scrapes' and tracks google trends. Plus I am still watching Adsense Bootcamp and loving what I'm learning. Hopefully I can apply it soon!

Congratulations on a great, arresting, post title-
You've taken one of the most important steps to gain the future of your choosing. You've written down your thoughts. That's a key step. You might like to consider the following steps that I, and many before me, have used to gain the future we desired...... Write Down The Vision So You Get Clear On Where You're Going You've already begun this. Every time you write a post like this one of yours you'll find your direction gets clearer. It's exciting as you learn more about yourself. Your outcomes will seem to become easier to reach. Ask Yourself Why You Want to Succeed in A Particular Area When you do this, and spare plenty of time to write out your answers, you'll be "polishing" your Intent. You need to display a Giving Intent with everything you write before you can expect to do any Getting. Here's a well kept secret that'll help you. As a reader casts their eyes over your Content - your actual text on the page - they are firstly checking out your Intent toward them. They know what your intention was towards them when you wrote your text. Always prepare your heart before each writing session. Don't worry when we read this post of yours we see nothing but a high quality Intent to connect in a meaningful way with your Fellow Warriors. You Have Naming Rights Over Your Life & Can Use Them Profitably Big companies put their name on their buildings. You can do the same to brand yourself and get the future you want. Some words are more powerful than others. The word "blur" for a username will make it a challenge for you to gain real "focus" here. It sounds so simple but when people do change their user name or a product name they experience amazing changes. I hope these thoughts may add value to your life. Thank you for allowing us all to share your thoughts on a subject that is of interest to many people. When I realized that, I set to writing a book on the subject to help people get the best out of themselves. It is my 18th and by far the one I've enjoyed writing the most. Because I know it will give readers true success - with happiness- for the rest of their days. Success Belongs To You When You Yield to The Genius Within KenLittle PS You have already begun - as you show the best of Intent in your last line...... |
