WARNING: Are spammers using your site?

Hi,

just found out that a spammer has been using
one of my "Tell a friend" scripts to send SPAM!

I found out by accident as this was something
I set up a few years ago and then forgot about
it.

He was sending from 4500 to 25800 emails a
day through my script before I caught him
after about a week! And the script was set
to work through my primary email.

Just wanted to let you know what's going on
without your knowledge and to make sure you
check all your scripts and equip them with
anti-spam verification codes.

Take care.

That is quite smart though, ethical, probably not.

So how did you stop him? Or just took it off?

Hate it when that happens. I had the same thing happen to me when I used the greeting card script from 2002 or so.....a few years ago spammers found the resource and rendered it worthless.

@JoelMatthews: I just took the site off. If I
use the "Tell a friend" script again, I'll use
the one that uses some kind of "are you human"
        verification process.

I know the guy is from Malaysia and I even have
his IP but it won't help me much.

The funny thing is that I actually got some traffic
to the site from his sendings because the first part
of the message encouraged the receiver to visit
my web site (what tell a friend scripts usually do).
The "optional" portion of the email, where the
sender writes an optional message was probably
        full of "prescription drugs" links...

I noticed that a lot of people begun to visit my
site from email without me sending anything. I
was curious who was good enough to send me
visitors through his/her email list and I noticed
that my tell a friend script that I forgot all about
had a lot of visitors recently... It was only one guy
coming back a couple of thousand times a day
(probably used a script of some sort).

Yeah, pretty smart indeed but extremely annoying,
        immoral and illegal.

That really sucks mate. I hope it wasn't one of your main sites or one that you have too much solid reputation riding on.
