Writing content for a site? The advice I get being new to internet marketing all the time is, content is king what does it mean exactly? I am not a writer nor would I afford to buy articles all the time. But is this what I should focus on

It's your content that not only does much to govern how your website is ranked, but also attracts visitors to your website and (hopefully) keeps them there. Web content is, after all why people visit your site. They are seeking information.

Yes, much of your content needs to written, but it can also be multimedia:
    • Video
    • Sound
    • Animation
    • Images
But you should use multimedia as an enhancement to your written content, not a replacement for it,

You say you are not a writer and you cannot afford to buy written content. I suggest you begin learning how to write then, otherwise what is the point?

Visit sites similar to you own, read their content and write something similar. NEVER copy content from another site; don't use plagiarism as your site's foundation, that's a recipe for disaster.

Say for example your website is about blue widgets. Google blue widgets and read everything you can about them. Then go on sites such as Amazon where you can buy blue widgets and forums about them and discover what problems people are encountering.

This will provide you with a great opportunity to write about how to solve those problems.

The more you write, the better you will become. There are plenty of places such as Slick Write you can visit on the web to get your writing assessed. They will help you learn and improve.

When people are online they are looking for information. We marketers can provide that information and then introduce products that we feel can help the marketplace out.

content is an old king that needs your help if you want it to rule the SERPS

You need to actively promote it and get other bloggers to promote it.

You'd be surprised to see what happens when you just ask,

On the Internet, attention is the coin of the realm. If someone builds a website and no one sees it or knows it's there, does it really exist?

The way you get attention is with your content. (SEOs, cover your eyes for this next bit.)

The content does not have to be on your own site, nor does it have to exist to please a few thousand lines of code in a bank of computers at an undisclosed location in Washington state.

Whether it's a page on your own site, a video on YouTube, a status update on Facebook or one of the 1,001 other social networks, a podcast, an ebook, or whatever combination you can come up with, your content helps people select themselves into or out of your tribe.

So, yes, content is king. And like most kings these days, your content will rule only with the consent and cooperation of the subjects.

Traffic is King. Whatever gets you traffic is what you do. And if that is content, fine. But content is not king. Content is a means to an end. Traffic is that end. So practically speaking traffic is king.

You say, you aren't a writer and you can't afford to order new articles all the time. So, write it yourself and you aren't going to regret it. Make sure you're providing relevant and decently written content. Then, as you grow and develop you will be able to hire pros to take care of your content. Content is undoubtedly very important for IM. You can expect from it to address all of your needs and expectations, but you shouldn't neglect it under any circumstances. Cheers! N

I don't think content is King.

    I believe it's Queen.

Yes it's true that you need high quality content that 'serves' your target market with value.

But no great content can survive on its own.

Marketing and Promotion of that content is KING!

Because without promoting that content (unless you are already a guru who already has as huge following), hardly anyone will see that content.

Conclusion: Content is part of the success equation online but not the whole thing. Make sure to promote your stuff so you can get 'targeted' eye balls on it (people who could benefit from it and even buy from you).

Content is at the heart of today's marketing strategies as businesses use websites and blogs to demonstrate their own expertise.

In the past five to ten years, the web has transformed buying behavior. In the past, if a potential client wanted information on your services he would call your office and engage you or one of your sales team to get the lowdown on your offering.

Today, his first port of call is undoubtedly the internet. He'll search on Google, check out your website and expect to sign up to article updates or social media feeds to find out more. He is checking to see who he could best trust to solve his business problem. He expects to find valuable content.

Answer questions. That's all you need to know. Do it in text, video, jpeg... whatever you want.

      In addition to that,

      Educate and entertain.

      But answer questions is key.

    whatever.....

the point is, if you think the "build it and they will come" approach is going to work then you're sadly mistaken.

Yes, you need great epic content but then you gotta pimp out your content.

Yes and No. You need a combo of both...1. Kick ass content! and 2. A plan to get that content seen.

You can write the best post in the world, but if no one sees it whats the point?

Good things happen when you create killer content. People share it. People link to it. People follow you. Search engines notice you. You become known as an authority in your niche which can bring lots of other opportunities further down the line.

Yes, Content is always ruling. Content pulls traffic, guides users, drives conversion, and encourages action, without good content which is perfectly optimized you can't go on google first page fast.

There have been a lot of misconception and controversies surrounding "content the king".

Many think if you just focus on the content by investing time and money on it, you will come out a winner. Unfortunately, that is not true...

Your great content on its own cant take you anywhere. As a matter of fact, inferior content that gets more exposure will do better than good content that nobody knows of.

So what am I saying; write a very good content, Yes!
A very good content, yes again!

Drive traffic to it and it will convert better than the inferior one.

Quality content can easily get viral when treated well by a savvy marketer. It can get featured, shared, syndicated, blogged, grab social media attention and all that.

Before any of these can happen, you need to sum up your calculations and arrive at conclusive answer.

In the nutshell, when a quality content is merged with the right amount of quality traffic, it can easily get viral and above all convert well too.

One of the deadliest combinations for any business is great marketing and exposure coupled with an inferior product. You might make some flash in the pan money, but when the word gets out, and it will, your business will be DOA.

That said, a 'meh' product coupled with 'meh' exposure will do better than a great product with no exposure.

Change the word "product" to "content", and the principle still holds.
