How do you collect feedback from clients?

From time to time when I am updating my website testimonials or needing some supporting info for a proposal document I send surveys and gather feedback from clients from projects.

Just wondered how many of you seek formal feedback from clients or if you mainly just get informal feedback over the phone or email.

Do you think feedback forms (online or otherwise) are redundant for marketers? Or do you think it is essential?

I'd love to be more pro-active in this area as I do think it provides valuable information.

WOM and referrals is really my only form of BDM, however as my business evolves I wonder if I should be more structured about feedback.

What's your process?

Thanks for your comment, I am interested to hear more about this for sure.

I am also interested how much time this would take per customer and the average take up of this style of feedback.

I am using Warrior for hire section of this forum.
After the completion of a project, I just request to share their experience on my warrior thread. I find, almost 70% of them are prompt and happy to share their experience.

I was also thinking about adding this section of testimonials on my website/Facebook page, but i also would like to know how affective is it to your business?

      Hi,

I have testimonials running/scrolling at the bottom of my website, I also collect it to include in proposals where necessary.

It's been quite beneficial and quite a few of my new client's view my website ahead of making a decision about using my services.

One thing I have always included at the very end of the signup forms I promote, is a area with the question "Where Did You Hear About Us?" I would say roughly 75% of my new signups fill the section in which gives me a good idea of which of my marketing methods was responsible for bringing that new member in.

    Send them a survey.

Offer them a cool gift if they complete the survey.

This is similar to another hot thread atm. I pointed them to:
6 Questions to Ask for Powerful Testimonials

You should check it out also.

I would also recommend online forms, or asking for a testimonial directly after you have finished a project or task.

    All the best.

i know this might seem as a sin to some marketers....

but i take my thank you page after optin traffic and direct them a google form:
    https://www.google.com/forms/about/

if i have a question I'll run the form until i get 200 responses (then i redirect my after optin traffic to my my OTO).. I also add a link to a free gift of value after they submit the form..

    Best of luck,

After you've demonstrated competency, and after providing the kind of value that gives them the perception (real or not) that they're getting upward of a 500% ROI, and after they realize how much you care about their satisfaction and not just about getting paid...

  • We usually ask for feedback via mail/Call/Skype and also sometimes ask for video testimonials. Recently we have collected three video testimonials for graphic and web design works.

good idea to ask for it by email, not a form
make it more personal, nobody wants to talk to a robot

yeah do not disagree about the gift idea: make it worth their time

the best testimonials come automatically, you dont have to ask for it
just provide a stellar service. as simple as that.

also: if you would use forms, as some people do: make it snappy!

one bad example I remember; paypal : "how did we do"
after they solved a case on my behalf

well! it goes on and on for pages, after filling out several of those
I quit on them, suddenly it looked like a survey worth of $25 for them for free
Guys, grow up, my time is expensive and i do not do surveys for you, unless
its all on 1 page. These guys that made 10 page surveys for paypal: Bad choice,
you loose so much intel and money with those guys.
