It's a personal choice and depends on your business model.

I know some very well-known marketers who use alternative names.

If you want to sell your business and not have it rely on you, then it makes sense not to use your name - you just need to make sure it's a non-issue regarding ethics and trust.

I don't use any other names, but I'm not trying to make my name a brand someone might want to buy.

Eben Pagens alter-ego David D'Angelo is a classic example of a pseudonym done well.

If you were selling a book on dog grooming which you'd had ghost-written, you might not want to use your real name since you don't actually necessarily know anything about the subject, but that doesn't invalidate the value of the book if it's been well written.

A lot of big marketers use variations on their name. In the UK, I can think of several who don't use their last name.

Actually, I didn't use to go by my full name - figured having three first names looked too silly!

Some very successful marketers use pseudonyms so coptcats
can't zero in on what they are doing. Tactics, niches, etc.

I live in a culture where people change names often and easily.
Different friends know them by different names, very different names sometimes.
Doesn't sound like a problem to me to have a pseudonym.
