Amazon advertising in Adwrods

I am trying to rank for a keyword that has a decent amount of searches a month, and I could potentially use amazon to monetize it.
Everything looks fine but I can see some Amazon Ads with that specific Keyword.

Is that a GOOD or BAD sign?

It depends. Ads mean somebody out there is making some money in theory from the keyword itself. Ads also mean that Google will go for the most relevant SERPS... So a keyword for Samsung TV will have lots of ads and the SERPS will be dominated by shopping sites like Amazon.

Outranking Amazon takes tools (Xrumer etc) in my opinion. These tools usually have a steep learning curve and it might might take you months to displace the likes of Amazon for certain keywords. And even then (since you are using tools), Google might do one of her flea-shaking updates and wipe out all your traffic.

My advice is that you should go for the long tail keywords and bulk up on them. That in my opinion is the smart way to do SEO and still make money.

Besides the good info you just got, you might want to check Amazon's advertising guidelines. There are a lot of otherwise potentially profitable keywords that are off limits because they use one of Amazon's trademarked terms. See the guidelines for the current list.
