Visitors are using my Amazon site for product research then leaving. I feel dirty and used. Help!

One of my amazon review sites is getting decent SEO traffic and these visitors are staying on the site 10-20 minutes with 3-6 page views. However, even though the product pages are set out well for click throughs to amazon in all the right places, very few visitors are bothering to click through to Amazon and buy.

I understand that some people are going to research products before they intend to purchase but it's happening way too much compared to my other sites. I would have considered this might just be a product people want to go into a store and hold in their hands after researching online first but this product is selling in big numbers on amazon.

i don't feel it is a trust issue with my site because they are interacting with the site for a good while and they can see the amazon button. And my other sites set out in exactly the same way don't have this problem. What do you think it might be? or would you advise I ditch the site because even though the traffic numbers are good and the content is obviously sticky it's clearly not converting for me for whatever reason. Any thoughts?

What sort of keywords is most of your traffic coming from? Are they product type keywords or more general keywords? Maybe the keywords that traffic is coming from are general so the visitors aren't in the advance stage of the buying process.

Thanks for replying. The traffic is coming in to the direct product page having used the individual product brand keywords. Not general keywords so it does seem odd.

Some types of products just sell better on Amazon than others.

There can be some subtle reasons. For example, on some of my old Amazon sites it seemed to me that products which were considered part of mainstream society, such as violins, would sell well from a fairly generic site, but product areas which were more about a subculture, such as DJ controllers, were getting much less conversions from a fairly generic type of site, maybe because sub-cultures are often somewhat exclusive, so would need a somewhat different approach.

It also seemed to me that, while products with a certain amount of complexity would respond better to informative product-reports which helped potential buyers understand which product was best for specific uses, I seemed to be getting better results from products where the final decision of which product was best, was mainly about user-ratings. For products where there might be 20 alternatives, each with a different combination of features, I was getting less conversion.

Now you're not allowed to mention prices, nor user-ratings, nor quote anything any customer has said, nor do any kind of summary, generalization or approximate of anything relating to any products on Amazon (your're only allowed to use their API), I found it impossible to add any value for the reader (since you basically cannot say anything about the product at all), so ceased working with Amazon.

This has definitely proved frustrating for myself also, I've done comparison type review sites with table integration and put quite a lot of effort in so it doesn't feel great that they could just switch me off overnight as and when they feel like it. Thankfully I don't have all my eggs in amazon's basket.I guess.

      I think it's mid range really, $200-$600.
