I would seek leagle advice , coming on to a marketing website and asking for advice really not the best idea

You will get some who will tell you what you should do but remember the buck stops with you if you think you should not do it go with the gut and DONT

    Just my 2cs

Do you know the difference between copyright and trademark registration?

Doesn't sound like it - start there and do the research to educate yourself on the issues. Copyright is one thing - trademark protection is another.

the book will have the name in the title
The idea of trademark is to keep other people from using your brand name....

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Final Fantasy has a series of their own 'official' guide books. And it looks like they are licensed to specific publishers. So I wouldn't use the name in the title, if you want to avoid a problem.

But, there references to Final Fantasy guide books by just using FF in the title. So this is how I think you could get around this. And promoting the book in game forums.

    Just an idea.

I would consult with a lawyer on this one.

Let's see, how many guides are there for Amazon, Ebay, CB, etc, etc, etc They all mention the entity in the title.

If I tell a friend on the street how I play FF, are the trademark police going to drop down on me from black helicopters?

I've seen a lot of disclaimers like this:

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is a MMORPG created and owned by Blizzard-Activision. This website is not associated with Blizzard, and is the work of a World of Warcraft fan.
In the end the best bet would be contact the people behind FF and ask them.
