Do you collect visitor information? Email addresses, names?

Does your site(s) currently collect and try to grab visitors email addresses for you to be able to monetize further?

I am very interested in what sort of information people try to grab and save from their visitors. I understand a huge amount of people collect email addresses to monetize further -- however can I get some answers on the below:

* Along with the visitor's email address - what other information do you collect & save to further use? Do you save their name? Try to collect their address?

What is the most VITAL information to collect from your visitors when possible? Discuss and help me out! :-)

Do you need more than a name and email address to contact someone?

I think you'll find the more personal information you attempt to gather, the more "pushback" and resistance you will get from your potential subscribers.

Don't ask for any more information than the minimum you need to know for your business. You can always develop a relationship later with specific subscribers if you need a physical address, phone number, etc. But don't push your luck on your very first contact or you're likely to get nothing.

Ye the man on top is right :-) Name and email should be enough for marketing needs, unless you have products that can be delivered only on specific region, for that you might need to know where those people live.

What is 'MMO' - sorry for asking?

Thank you all for the replies. So the message here is best to only get the name & email address.

Would you advise their full name, or just a first name? Any suggestions on this?

Email addresses are generally collected to invoke future action from a user, however it is not the only information people seek to collect. Often, a one-click optin to a social media platform can feel less intrusive for your users and can unlock much more information like their basic information, interests and friends.

Physical addresses may be too personal, but a postal code can provide you the same demographic information and is less work for the user. Another advantage obtaining a postal code is that you can segment your users and create personalized call to actions to encourage them to convert.

It does help for sure. Over the course of time a percent of those will sign up and buy your other recommendations. It takes somebody to see you 5 to 12 times before they are ready to do business with you. It's all numbers

Could someone define what an 'MMO' is?

Thank you all for the replies. I'll be sure to make sure to collect their name and email address for definite.

    One question though:

Do you collect their first name and last name - or just the first? (or last?)

Make money online . . . or . . . money making opportunity. Take your pick - they refer to basically the same thing.

Why do you need anyone's name for anything? Whenever anyone asks for mine I use Dick Hertz. Never been an issue.

In most instances you only need an email address. But I do have a few squeeze pages that ask for their phone number since I close a lot of my sales via the telephone.

I made the very tragic mistake one time of giving an IM'er my phone number. He must have sold it to 30 other marketers that no matter how many time I told them to never call me again, they did so, repeatedly. It went on for months.

Anyone that gives an IM'er their phone number is a total moron, just like I was!

Just an email address is enough for me. If you're not getting their email address then you're leaving lots of money on the table.

The first name is one of the most valuable marketing tools we have. It's the one word that we can say that is nearly always guaranteed to at least get someone's attention. So is it worth collecting all the time? I'd say so.

Well...I myself usually ask for the email address. The less information is better because if we ask too many information, they will tend to not fill the information

Hi MailPit! I would capture visitors email addresses when they would visit my page. It helped later when I wanted to promote a new release or product and increased customer feedback. Hope this helped and I wish you all the best!

The key is to be as in-obtrusive as possible. Let your visitors browse through several pages or spend at least a few minutes digesting the information before asking for their email.

I'd keep it as lean as possible, which will probably increase your likelihood of getting people to fill in all the options. I for one cannot stand forms that ask me too much information. If you only need and want first name and email, ask only for this. I agree with Steve B, once you develop a dialogue with the subscriber you can ask for more based on how your communication is going.

Thank you all for the great responses! Heavily appreciated!

Can someone who does currently collect email address and names, confirm the below for me?

Do you collect their 'First name' and 'Last name' as seperate, or do you just collect 1x 'Full name'?

Full name or first name? - What do you guys do?

It all depends on your market.
In the MMO niche and health niche,i usually collect emails and names for personalization of my emails when i start my follow up autoresponder email series.

First name and email only, any more than that and your opt-in rates start to drop very quickly. Once they become a customer you can obtain more info with a short survey, if you really need the extra info.

      Regards,
      Pete
