What's a good place to learn IM for someone with plenty of web design/development experience?

I have a lot of background knowledge in HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL/WordPress/etc

I'm looking to bridge that in order to take advantage of these skills and apply them to IM. I sort of understand the very basics, but I'd really appreciate it if someone can point me into the general direction of where I could learn the aspects that I'm missing.

I have a couple of "niches"/knowledge that would be very useful for a certain demographic to know, however I'm not sure how to use this knowledge + my web design talent to generate revenue.

Any advice for someone like me?

Thanks!
Pete

This sounds like you need to gain a lot more skills, and discover how to apply the web development skills you already have. The areas to look at should consist of learning how to write effectively, how to translate what you know into an appealing, commercially viable format. Additionally you could look at 'SEO' and how to build plausible looking local business sites, attach trackable phone numbers and sell leads to local business-this is probably the most desirable 'niche' to develop, one that is not familiar to the newby and beginning web dev. For example you can build an 'Electrician' company site, rank this to appear in user searches, then collect customer inquiries-sell em.
Really it is a question of filtering out all the noise and focusing on one business concept at a time. The big mistake newbies tend to make is to get over excited at the potentials behind different directions, and they wind up doing nothing.
