How to overcome these 3 strongest obstacles stopping you from starting an online business?
We hear great inspirational stories.........we hear what steps they took, yet most of the people sit idle wondering what should they do next.
Why? This pains me.
I was trying to identify and analyse the most common excuses people make to themselves - the irrational justifications that sit tight between them and their "visioned" online business. Here's what I think are the most common obstacles and how you can kick them in the butt:
1. I don't have time
This is the most common one.
Usually, these people have learned a thing or two about internet from people who work full time. They get so overwhelmed with their macro achievements that they forget the micro steps it took them to reach there.
No one started full time on internet right from the start.
It takes time to build something and then finally taking the "trending" bold step of giving up your 9-5 thingy.
I won't give you old worn out motivational lift offs like "Warren Buffet or Elon Musk has time, why not you?"
The problem is we have allowed so many people and distractions to boss around with our daily routine. We react to them, our time plays in the hands of them. And unless, we claim our time back and understand that only, we and we are the true DIRECTORS of our time, we can't break through the "time dilemma."
"THE DAY YOU DECIDE TO TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR TIME" will be the day you stop complaining about time. Take charge, my dear friend.... Take charge.
One of the notable examples I look upon these days is Bushra Azhar - a true magician with pen. She is a mother of two, started a blog two years back while still working 9-5, left her job a year back just because she was earning enough from launches and blogging, and guess what; she just did a Million dollar launch!
All with two children and a husband to look after!
Ask her how she manages her time and she says "I Just took charge of my time."
2. I don't have any ideas/ or a lot of ideas
Another most common obstacle. Either people have so many ideas or they don't have any.
But all the internet pundits will tell you one thing: You unconsciously have a super power you are not aware of.
And people are carving to learn those super powers from you. Over the years, almost all of us do develop certain skills or knowledge that people are ready to pay for. Whether it's sketching, gaming, social skills, technology craze, computer skills and so on, most of the people are not aware that there are people ready to learn from them.
I liked how Ramit Sethi has addressed this pain so brilliantly. Here are his suggestions on how to identify an idea with-in-you that is both profitable and rewarding:
- Put aside 30 minutes today and 30 minutes tomorrow (two distinct times are important).
-Use pen and paper.
- Write down as many valuable "nuggets" you can think of. These can be:
1. Skills you have developed (e.g writing blogs or emails).
2. Knowledge you have acquired (e.g organic chemistry).
3. Challenges you've overcome (e.g obesity, peptic ulcer disease etc).
At this stage, don't feel shy about the quality of each "nugget." Just write it down plain and simple - at least 20. Remember, what sounds easy to you might be very valuable to someone.
You have 20 ideas. Now, where most people go wrong?
To answer this, let me tell you an interesting story.
Gary Helbert, you know him, right? Our very own price of copywriting. Here is how the story goes:
"One day, during one of his seminars, he asked his students "What's the single most important thing you wish to have if you want to make your restaurant business a success? Some said "prime location". Others said "zero competition". Some said "trained employees". Others said "A large capital." He listened to everyone and agreed with none. When asked about his opinion he said, "I would want a huge crowd of hungry people."
He was so spot on.
The most common mistake we make while deciding on which idea to pursue is IGNORING THE DEMAND.
Well, measuring demand is a separate topic and there are tonnes of threads already on warrior forum that explain the exact procedures you need to determine your product/idea demand.
The bottom line is: You are already carrying a million dollar business within you....The biggest obstacle is to explore it. Is that a difficult job?
3. Why would anyone listen to me?
Here come your fears.
Fear of getting mocked, laughed or being called a "list pimp."
And you talk to yourself wondering "It seems that without proper experience and credentials my business wouldn't seem legitimate to others."
Believe me -- you don't have to be the BEST to start with.
And you can't become THE BEST until you don't start. Because "THE BESTS" have to learn from mistakes.
And so will you.
I have seen copywriters who, before starting, misspelled copywriting with copyrighting. And here they are now, making 5-figure launches (yes, this is Bushra Azhar's story!).
People are craving to listen to you...Take your first step.
These are some of the obstacles which I think are the strongest hindrance between people and their wish to start an online business. I know there are more experienced warriors here who can add more pearls to this thread and make it one heck of a motivation guide for newbies.
Thanks to them in advance!
