Flippa buyer scam. Claimed refund with Paypal.

We recently sold a site on Flippa for xxx$, we were happy and buyer was happy but today, almost 4 weeks after completing the sale, the buyer filed a refund out of nowwhere with Paypal without even contacting us, claiming that the site was not as described in the Flippa auction description. I mean, we reviewed the website for a week together and i even supported for 10 extra days and offered extra help anytime he asked. After this happened i sent the buyer several messages asking if he could clarify what was the problem and that i was willing to help him out with any doubts he might have had but he is not answering any message so we denied his claim and filed a complain as well. I am suspecting he is doing this on purpose to get a full refund and still keep the complete website. Btw he truly loved the website so i am 100% sure this is not a genuine complaint otherwise i would have been happy to give a complete refund.

Paypal is currently reviewing the case.

How long does it take for PayPal to usually resolve a dispute like this one?

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

    Sorry to hear

Well, this is where Auction TOS come into play.

Simply put something like domain will be tranferred later on after a specific period of time.

But best option is to go with escrow

Hopefully someone on this forum who is an expert in these matters will be able to advise you because I can't. However, my own personal view would be that if you can prove that you gave the buyer everything that he asked for, you should win the case.

Incidentally, what happened to your site. Have you regained ownership or has the buyer still
    got it?

The same think also happened with me. The buyer cannot even read the full description I gave there in my listing. After purchase he again and again filled dispute in flippa and also in paypal. But thank GOD, lastly win with the honest. I win and have my flippa account back and also my money.

My dear friend if you have all proof in written and buyer was agree with you. then don't worry you will win the case. Don't forget to post all this information in your case. As Paypal will give you a time period to submit all information. Just show them and if possible then call customer care and send me all details. They will investigate and if you are true then i am 100% sure you will win.

You could lose your money. Always use escrow for Flippa deals. This will help to ensure a smooth transaction and brings a 3rd party witness into the equation

I think you will be fine. Make sure to screenshot the conversations between you and the buyer as evidence.

There's really no telling unfortunately, PayPal is as unpredictable as they come. But good luck, and as others have said, always use escrow.

Update. Some good news to all sellers that sell digital products through paypal!

I just got reimboursed by PayPal after just 2 days of the buyer filing the claim because his claims where obviously not real and was trying to make up excuses to keep the website and the money as well. I gave PayPal a call and explained the situation, they reimbursed the money right after.

    Feels great. Finally some justice!

    Thanks everybody for the help!

  • I am really shocking to hear the issue. There are many people around the world, Every people are not bad or, every people are not good. You need to touch to the Paypal. I am sure the Paypal & Flippa both site is top level site. Both of these site has a good reputation. If the buyer does not reply to you, you can inform about it to the Paypal. if the paypal can identify that the buyer is cheater, you will have no problem. Thanks for your advance.

  • Thanks for posting an update on this.

Just shows that picking up the phone can go a long ways in resolving issues.

I've sold several sites on flippa and bought several as well. It's a good market place but lot's of scammers out there. Anything over a grand be sure and do an escrow with.

I highly suggest to use Escrow payment option when you are selling a website online. It demises the possibility of charge back and refunds. It also control the fraudsters as well.
