How do you rate this domain name?

Hi all!

I'm in the process of setting up an affiliate site along the lines of the very popular thisiswhyimbroke.com, except mine will be focused on a certain genre of products.

I will basically be promoting a large and varied catalogue of products and stuff, in a fun and quirky way, and have been looking at a brandable domain name.

Stuffgasm.com is the name I am thinking of using.

I'd love some honest feedback, is it a good brandable name, or a ridiculous name that only sounded good in my head!

Any other advice on setting up an affiliate site in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

Your Prospects/Visitors aren't interested in why they're "broke." So (IMO) your first domain isn't a profitable one. Instead, I would concentrate on what they want to achieve.

      Thanks Jonathan for your reply!

I was actually looking for feedback on stuffgasm.com, as basically my site will sell "stuff" that is so great it will give people stuffgasms! :-)

Thisiswhyimbroke.com is a similar site to what I'm thinking of, and is quite successful, turning over $30k+ a month.

Nothingbutwealth.com doesn't suit me niche, but is a great domain, surprised it's available!

Lol. I really like that idea, (In fact the Website that I'm working on right now is very similar.) I just searched GoDaddy.com and Stuffgasm.com is already taken. : ( Don't let that deter you though, you have a great idea and I wish you all the best with it. : )

          Thanks Jonathan, great advice!

It's gone of GoDaddy because I bought it earlier today (I'm a bit of a domain name hoarder) but just wanted to get some feedback before I started using it.

          Thanks again.

Something I would add is to provide your Visitors with (Free) Valuable content. (You may have to negotiate this with your Affiliate Partners.)

Then direct them to your Affiliate Sites. You can potentially create something of massive value with this approach,

I agree with Jonathan, I think you need to turn the tables a little and figure out the FAB's for your customer. After all, in the whole scheme of things they are buying for their own benefit and they key is to tap into the areas that they want solved. You giving them such a great deal or offer that it ends up send you broke isn't really a motivator. Good luck with your idea.

Unless you're already a household name like Amazon or Ebay, your domain name should give some indication as to what your site is all about or what you're selling. Otherwise it will most likely be overlooked.

This was my concern... It was a toss up between suffgasm.com and coolnichestuff.com

I believe that Google puts less emphasis on exact keyword match domain names, so I still think I can rank well with good SEO.

I might go back to the drawing board with the name though.

      Thanks for your input.

Amazon and eBay are household names now - but they haven't always been.

For that matter, neither were Google, Yahoo, Bing, nor GoDaddy.

Domain name has NO impact on the ranking of your web site in search engines (other than the negative impact of exact match domains), so your best bet is 1) short, and 2) memorable.

Unless/until you can get good search engine placement for your keywords, most of your traffic will come from 1) other web sites (i.e. external links) or 2) the visitor keying in your domain name in the browser address bar. Of course, they can't do #2 unless they know the URL - and that's why you often see people recommending that your domain name "give some indication as to what your site is about or what you're selling".

The problem with that is that it anticipates "word of mouth" proliferation of your domain name.

Since most "word of mouth" suggestions these days come in the form of a mention on a web page (news, forum, blog, or social media mention) or email, and those mentions are always linked in a clickable fashion... there is really no need for your domain name to even be meaningful - as long as it is as short as possible and memorable.

Note - it might even be hyperlinked with a phrase or an entire paragraph of what your site is about or what you're selling.

Again - you will receive very few visitors as the result of someone having seen your domain name posted somewhere, or having heard of it (rather than coming across a clickable link). For anyone coming across your domain name by actual audible "word of mouth", short and memorable will win out over anything else.
