I've been blogging since 1999 and have had my own hosted WordPress blogs since 2003. So I never used to bother much with platforms like Posterous or Tumblr.

Fortunately one day I realized that many of my best prospects were using Tumblr and decided to include it into my social media marketing. And I'm surprised by how many people I know are using it.

Tumblr makes it really easy to share your blog post. You can share with either the "text" or "photo" option

Tumblr gets a lot of traffic, but is it the same since Yahoo bought it?

    Tips for Tumblr:
    - Use relevant tags, but no more than 5
    - Pick a theme that is easy to navigate and interact with
    - Make use of the 'queue' feature, that is basically scheduling posts
    - Even on photos, it's worth writing a paragraph of content that is related to your keywords/tags
    - Optimising a blog post works the same on Tumblr as it does on your website, eg. Use of H1, H2, H3
    - Put a link back to your website in your Tumblr description and also at the end or beginning of every blog post to direct traffic
    - Bouncing quickly onto trending topics, but stay relevant and as neutral as possible (Tumblr has lots of inter-communities that are aggressively political etc. It's best to stay out of these communities unless you want your inbox flooded.)
