Other Reasons (Besides Making Money) to get into Internet Marketing?

It's clear that making money is the primary reason for creating an online business. Are there other reasons why you developed interest?

For me, I am a teacher by nature and love creating products that teach people how to do something. It's a lot of fun and my passion. Creating an info-product allows an outlet for this.

Also, I realize that it can help build confidence in oneself as well. When I first started out, I was insanely scared and did not know if I 'had it.' Now, I can't even believe I used to think like that. Doing something by yourself in an area that you're not familiar in is a great way to foster confidence.

    Angela,

You can create info products without getting into Internet marketing. But if you intend to sell or distribute your info product, then a knowledge of IM will serve you well.

It really doesn't matter the reason or motivation one has to be in this field - anyone is welcome to browse, study, learn and try out their new skills.

But if you actually intend to market, to me at least, that term suggests that there is an exchange of value and benefit that you're trying to accomplish - your product or service for someone else's money, permission, or good will.

Really as simple as seeing that you can reach a far broader audience on-line - so many people have local businesses where they are held hostage to their local clientele. Having an on-line business where you leverage internet marketing allows you to expand that base so that you can do businesses globally and live wherever you want.

Honestly, the main reasons I got into Internet Marketing are because I hate having a boss that I am smarter then, I hate getting up before 9AM, and I absolutely hate sitting in traffic (For those of you that live in super urban area, you get what I mean)

"Internet Marketing" is just another means of exchanging money. It's just another marketing *technique*, it's NOT a business. It's just another *tool* in the box, such as: direct mail, business cards, newspaper advertising, yellow page advertising, classified advertising, etc.

I love selling online because i'm good with computers, and i'm wayy to lazy to work 40 hours a week at a job. Plus selling is easy. And i dont have to deal with the nuisances of an offline business.

    Freedom.

I used to be a financial analyst. Had to be at the office at a certain time. Take break at a certain time, etc. I hated it.

Now I'm a master of my own time and I can create my schedule how I want.

Very insightful replies everyone. That's a great point about avoiding traffic. Driving can be very stressful and time consuming depending on the area you live in. I, personally don't like driving a lot (just in spurts) - and definitely not on an everyday basis. Lifestyle factors are deeply embedded into what would attract someone to starting an online business. These are things I experienced but have not consciously put together.

I guess some might say it's to accomplish something else, but isn't the primary reason for any business to make a profit? (money)

I just hated working for someone else, despite doing what I loved.

So being my own boss, working my own hours, and having much much more freedom were big for me when starting.

    There are many reasons:
    • Work all over the world with many companies.
    • Meet with people in the places that are far away.
    • Get to be "Almost Famous" in your niche or area.
    • Be up to speed on all the latest technologies that are new.
    • Find time to go on an extended summer vacation in exotic regions.

My mom was a teacher and she had to work every summer. Vacation was for the little ones. Otherwise, they do not pay you. Internet marketing helps you create many streams of revenue. If one dries up... there are always many more. Certainly, this is a lot better than depending on a large company. Like there is no fear of DOWN sizing and OUT sourcing. Yeah, most of us know what it is like to be DOWN & OUT!

  • There are a lot of ways to get into IM. You can do dropshipping and you can create your own products and services.

  • You can also try dropshipping, product creation, or simply offering freelancing services online.

I like working online for the fact that it is still the wild wild west where income & lifestyle potential is limitless. That may soon change however depending on what governments decide to do.

But other than the money potential, I would say working from wherever and whenever I want, as well as just being my own boss.

Whatever the end game is for everyone it all boils down to making money.

You can try to spin it any way you want. Without the making money part the rest is just a dream

Being my own boss. Making my own schedule. Doing things the way I want to do them. Making enough money to be able to support that lifestyle is a primary goal of IM, for most people, I believe. The money and the lifestyle it gives you go hand in hand. Most of us, I think, love the freedom working online gives us, and would have a hard time going back to traditional employment. Plus, if you do it correctly, you can make a lot more money online than you can working for someone else. The freedom and other lifestyle perks are the goals, and making money is the means to achieve them.

It's not only driving, but the time it takes to commute as well as the expenses. Also, add in the time it takes to get ready every day and the average person probably spends 1 1/2 every day getting ready for, and driving to work, without pay.

Another benefit I haven't seen mentioned before is the cost of a second set of "work clothes". How much money needs to be spent buying and washing clothes just to wear to work?

Good "accounting" takes into consideration the NET money earned. When a person has a job, things like transportation expenses, work clothes, even eating lunch all need to be factored in.

Doing IM at home also means you can adjust your schedule around other family members and don't have to leave pets alone for long periods of time.

It also means <almost> never having to set an alarm clock and sleeping until you wake up naturally.

If you have a laptop, you can work pretty much wherever you want. From your back porch, a hotel room, RV, friend's house, any place with WiFi, etc.

On the other hand, the main benefit of being an employee that I can think of, is matching social security, at least in the US. This probably offsets some of the travel/clothes expenses, at least in the long run.

Finally, I don't mean to brag, but I'm the best boss I've ever had.
