100 gigs

I went on five errors and ordered 100 gigs from people who had on their profile page.
"Will write 500 words for one gig."
I sent them each the message.
"I am willing to employ your services. Question, are you willing to write 500 words on any topic for a blog, no research necessary? All I ask is that the content be free of profanity as in no vulgarity, sexism, racism etc. This is to test how good of a writer you are. If you do a good job I will give you a $5 tip and I will give you five stars unless your work is very poor. If you are interested - message me."

All the people I chose were novices. Yeah, as in less than a level one. They were starting out and badly needed the work or so they say.

Well, here is what did occur my fine ones.

OK, so all 100 people did message me. They are interested and want to start right away.
I sent them all one gig. Then the next day 71 did cancel on me. They had all kind of
excuses
.
Here are some of my favorites.
  • I had to rush to the hospital to see my cousin.
  • The computer at my work is not working anymore.
  • My dog is dying of cancer.

Actually, the excuses were max sour. I wrote back. Please put your gig on pause. OK so they are all up.
The next day 17 people asked to cancel and two women ask for more money.
First one said she needed four more gigs. Second said she needed six more gigs. A total of seven.
I paid both the extra gigs. The next day both women cancelled on me.
Both used the - my dog is dying of cancer - excuse.
Glad I am not a dog as they are all dying of cancer now.
Then one senior guy... He calls me up. Don't know how he got my number, but that is fine with me. He says it is a family emergency... sorry, cannot do the gig.

What about the remaining nine?

OK so one person does zero. They let the gig expire.
Eight demand more gigs. I pay em.
After all, due to refunds, I have a lot of remaining gigs to use up.

Sadly, six come up with more excuses. Oh yes, they cancel on me.

Only one person does the job and they get a $5 tip on top of five gigs.

My favorite message is from a girl that heard about me from an elderly senior woman. She wanted $300 for 500 words and a few days later she wrote back that she was willing to do the work for $150 - half price.

Not surprising. So 99 out of a 100 had better things to do then make pennies from a marketer. The only one making below minimum was the marketer sorting through garbage with the everlasting hope that someone had thrown out a still wrapped gourmet burger.

Wait a second. He stated that they each offered to write 500 words for 1 gig (I assume that that means US$5, but this was never stated). He was simply taking them up on their offer. If they didn't intend to accept the offer, they shouldn't of made it. That's not his fault.

nope people can do what they want and they put the value they choose on it. Thats the only real should. Sure they offered it but when the chips were down did they value that money for the article? Proof is in the pudding 99 didn't.

Look I know marketers don't want to hear it but in almost every other walk of life there an expectation people understand some facts of life out there in the market place. I walk through the door of a store and they offer me a tshirt for $2 I expect theres going to be something not too wonderful about it yep even though the store offered it for $2

Writing is a service business so is it any real surprise the people didn't come through with service for $4 pay (what most get for fiverr gigs at least )? None whatsoever..

Besides almost no writer I know chooses to write for $5. Most are just giving in to the sense they need to be that cheap because marketers want super cheap - doesn't mean they value that price very highly as is the case here

While you don't always get the best writers on Fiverr so many people backing out is highly unusual. I would guess that the topic he wanted the articles on must be a very difficult topic to write about.

You make a very valid point. That is the problem when people want to hire writers, they want us to work for pennies, while getting the high quality content, with unlimited changes. It just doesn't work that way. Like you said, you get what you pay for. Why would I write a 500 word article for $5 bucks? The research alone could take a couple hours.

Unfortunately, he didn't post what type of articles he needed, etc. No, it's not okay to back out at the last minute, but maybe he didn't disclose how many words or how much it actually paid.

This sounds strange, most sellers on fiverr are serious minded and always delivers to upgrade their level...guess something is wrong somewhere

If it's not a question for you, by the way, and you're quite happy looking after your family and being a primary childcarer then that's great and you should consider yourself lucky that you've found your vocation.

I have used fiverr a couple of times without problem, but those were for simple graphics, not sure you would ever get your moneys worth paying $5 for 500 words. I can understand an offer of $5 for 100-200 words, but 500, think you will never get a great job for that
