Help me improve my YouTube video

I decided I would make a YouTube channel featuring an ongoing series of toy related videos with my son. I've decided I would apply agile methodology to my video creation as my skill level is minimal but I have an aptitude for learning, and will aim for improvement. My first video is a bit scratchy but I'm looking for areas I can improve between video to video.

Generating revenue is not essential, and I may never make a cent, but it would be a nice by-product of enjoying spending time with my son.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

  • I don't know if you've noticed it yet, but you just got the biggest endorsement you could possibly get about 2 hours ago. LEGO itself just posted first under your video and said they love it.

P.S. The word you were going for there is of course "aptitude." Funny slip, lol.

Is what happens when you post late at night, haha...

I guess I'm a bit of an amateur but I have no idea how to make the like from LEGO valuable.

WOW, lego peeked in and commented... cool

I'd do two things right off the bat, let the audience know what they are getting into

and second, in your youtube analytics I'd look at audience retention, the higher that number is the better..

repeat the style of videos that yield the highest audience retention rates... this will get you better rankings..

and of course, continue creating content on keywords that people search on...

    best of luck!

I watch lots of 'unboxing' and 'surprise egg' videos with my toddler

They are a lot of fun ... AND ... they MAKE A LOT OF MONEY

There are several news stories of parents earning north of 70K USD just making toy videos with their kids every few days

Just look at the subscriber count of many of those vids' channels

    INSANE

As far as advice, here's some of what I gathered from quality vids in your niche

    - Improve sound quality
    - Edit your vid to create a tighter more cohesive viewing experience
    - overlays of the products you are highlighting
    - use a brand watermark - BUILD THAT BRAND EARLY!

Other than that, great first vids!

Thanks, I'll take that onboard for the next video we create in the next few days.

I definitely need to get stuck into branding!

With you being new to IM you may struggle to pull it off but writeaway gives some winning advice. In your shoes (or slippers) I'd head over to Fiverr.com and secure 2 services. First, someone to design a pro' logo; second, a video producer to take your next video and incorporate writeaways suggestions. When the producer does that for you be sure to ask for the source files. That way, you can open them up in something like Camtasia and figure out how he did it. To add to writeaway's advice, I'd suggest having a segment before and after the video, in which you speak to the camera and explain what the video is all about. This will help with conversions and minimize bounce. You could also do with making the videos short (and, yes, more cohesive) to dimish bounce and increase audience action-taking (channel sunscription, newsletter subscription, etc). In regards the later, you'll find the majority of traffic on YT can be distinguished by their bouncing around behaviour, going from one video to the next, and this even applies to unboxing and product reviews, since viewers are hoping to soak up as much info as possible prior to making a purchase decision. That brings up 2 issues: bouncing around and purchase decisions. Viewers for this type of vid are primed to purchase, and you need to be the one to benefit. That's the biggest flaw right now. You need to be capturing and selling. When you get that right, consider ranking. You'll want to rank in YT for the "buying keyword" but - more important - rank those videos in Google for the same buyer keyword and a handful of related terms. Love the video!

I'll definitely look into getting some more professional branding made, but I have no idea what writeaway is?
