Hello Guys

Do you have much success using Twitter?
Recently I connected Twitter to Squidoo Lenses and test it out. I receive new followers every day and update my Twitter frequently.

What is your opinion about it?

    I've had more good fortune, JV partnerships and sales through Twitter than Facebook, MySpace and all the others combined so far. And I have less than 300 followers.

    I think it's the killer app of the year, and notice friends starting to give out their twitter name in sig files and INSTEAD of their email. Hmmm.

        I did a test just this last week. I had 138 followers at the time and I did a tweet for an affiliate product.

        That tweet resulted in 36 clicks and one sale.

        Needless to say I am trying to get more followers now.

        I must also add I do not consistently send out pitches. The vast majority of the tweets are about what I am doing.

      I have to vent a little here.

      I think Twitter is great. I don't update a lot, and I've never used it to promote anything. But I love getting an insight into fellow Internet marketer's worlds. Quite a few warriors have been good enough to follow me, and I have reciprocated, but I've been seriously peeved lately.

      Some Warriors added me fairly recently (in the last week or so). These warriors were recognizable, and had made some good contributions to some cool conversations, so when in saw they followed me, I didn't hesitate to follow them back.

      Imagine my surprise when 24 hours later one of those warriors had filled my twitter home page with all his updates. Every few minutes there was a tweet with an affiliate link in for a recent big product launch. The updates weren't even eloquent or intelligently written. It was just blatant, poor promotion. I lost a lot of respect for them, and seriously doubt their abilities as a marketer as a result. I perused briefly some of their previous Twitter updates, and it was mostly crap.

      It annoyed me, because it was quite literally "Twitter-Spam". It annoyed me. So many people work hard to deliver great value, and some just have some good banter on twitter, and then a couple of Warriors joined it, and started spamming it. I mean, Warriors? I couldn't believe that regular posters in this forum would stoop to such a low.

      I un-followed them, and I shall never make the mistake again. I think twitter is great. I think its the same as anything else though, make some great contributions to the marketplace and the people on twitter, and when you want to promote something, you'll get some good results. I would certainly never base my business around Twitter, but its a nice sideline and an excellent piece of one's online infrastructure.

    Twitter is great if used correctly. I liken it to being at a business function attended by thousands of people. Or hundreds or however many are following you. If you walk up and make conversation first and let people get to know you, and they form a good impression of you, then you have greatly increased the chance that they will buy from you.

    If you walk up to them, shove your business card or brochure in their hand, and try to sell them a car or whatever it is you're selling, they will turn and run away.

    It amazes me when I get Twitter spam from people who don't understand that.

    But as for me - I've gotten so many ghostwriting clients from there I can't even begin to tell you. Other than the Warrior Forum I have not been able to find any other networking tool that works as well. In all honesty Twitter works BETTER for me - because there are a lot of offline business people on there, and offline people tend to pay better than Internet Marketers.

    I'm pretty sure I know exactly who and what you're talking about. I'm chalking it up to poor judgment and unfamiliarity with the medium. It happens, but you're 100% right.

    Twitter, by its very nature, is NOT conducive to spam. One click of the "Block" button and POOF, you cease to exist completely. You, along with every single one of your posts disappear from my timeline forever.

    My favorite "Twanker Maneuver™" though is the craven Follow 2,000 people, get 200 to follow back, then remove 1,976 followers the next week to give the impression of your great importance...

    Again folks, Twitter doesn't work that way. If you fail to amuse, inform and/or engage your followers, you WILL be removed by anyone paying any attention. 200 tweets to 200 silent Twitter accounts is all you're doing.

    This doesn't mean you shouldn't sell using Twitter. It means you shouldn't SUCK OUT LOUD AT SELLING using Twitter. Knowhadimean, Vern?

      And Dana, I have done some writing and freelancing, and you are right, Twitter is great for making new business contacts and connections for work and deals.

      Twanker! Ha ha! Curse you for trademarking it before I could, you twerk.

      Yeah, I noticed one day that Shoemoney who normally only follows around 50 people even though he has about 4000 followers - had suddenly followed about 400 new people including me. And THEN - the next day he unfollowed a bunch of people and was back down to 50 followers! It struck me as rude and arrogant - yes, everyone should listen to what he has to say, but he really can't be bothered wasting his time listening to anyone else. Peasants. I mean Tweasants.

      I shall remain silent on the specific identity of big name IMers foolishly and madly spamming everyone with affiliate links. But it's just like an autoresponder series - if you send nothing but sales emails and you send them all the time then I at least get bored and unsubscribe. If you send great valuable tips and intersperse them with sales emails then I will occasionally buy.

    I have to say this... I put Twitter Link in my sig on the WF, and I recieve almost a dozen new followers daily... automatically.

    Then I created a few articles on twitter and posted a link to my Twitter profile in the bio box and the result was a stream of new followers... again automatic.

        Just thought I'd come here and say, that I checked out the work of the warriors I mentioned earlier on in this post at twitter, and it seems they use it purely as a platform to launch their affiliate links onto the unsuspecting public. Pretty disappointing and highly annoying for those who have to put up with.

        Its interesting to see what some people are like when it really comes down to it.

    Twitter is like anything else - you get out of it what you put into it. If you have products or services that you want people to find out about - but you are never on Twitter - how will they hear about it? Go on Twitter a couple of times a day, and take ten minutes each time to post a Tweet about what you are up to, check your replies and see if you need to reply to them, and reply to other people's Tweets. I mean, a Tweet is about 2 sentences long, it doesn't take a huge amount of time and effort.

    It's a minimum amount of time spent, and it can really reap big rewards.

      I enjoy using Twitter. I agree with some posters though. There are some well-known marketers who simply deluge you with one marketing Tweet (including affiliate link) after another - like several per hour.

      I suppose they're just playing a numbers game. They know that people can unfollow them but they're banking on getting a few dollars from people before they do.

    The best of twitter is about relationships and the group dynamic.

    Its about having actual real friends,.. people you think and care about who you want to keep up with, this is where the real magic of twitter is.

    There are groups of people who are "in the know". Marketers who all know who is in their group and send twits to eachother constantly to keep eachother up to date, to confirm accountability, to make bets,....

    Twitter is undefinably powerful for tight knit groups needing constant information maintenance. Obviously a group of marketers in the miasma of product development will dominate this tool.

    Marketers who approach Twitter as a way to get the word out about an affiliate product will be relegated to the "far dark corner of spammerville".

    The very best way to approach Twitter if your new is to go out and find people with similar interests as yourself and be friendly. Become friends and follow 3-4-5oo people and become a part of the community,..let them get to know you as a person, while also mildly letting them know what you do.

    Do sideways marketing on twitter. when you know you will have a product available on a date,.. let people know what your working on without a link during the whole process.

    The trust you have built and the slow indoctrination into understanding what you are doing will generate whatever visits you can squeeze out of Twitter.

    I've actually been disappointed to get Tweets with affiliate links in them from people I really would have thought would know better, in the past several days.

    Not naming names, but they are big name marketers who are already making lots of money and have their own products. Why alienate your Twitter followers by trying to sell other people's stuff, in a format that's really not suited to it?

    It can take some time and effort, and it's not for every marketing model. It doesn't work to promote other people's products. It works well for social networking and promoting your own products and services.
