Default Who Invented the Term (PLR) a.k.a Private Label Rights

Hey,

I was just wondering, as I received yet another email promoting PLR rights, who the heck invented the phrase in the IM world.

I remember being on a conference call about two years ago, and was told that Jeremy Burns came up with the concept/term, however, does anyone know the true answer.

Todd

It's been around for use in business for a while

But I'm not sure who started it with IM

EDIT: Duh, that's why I should read first. You were clearly talking about use in IM world. Sorry

Private label - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term is at least as old as the supermarket... and most likely a lot older.

Certainly not somebody in the IM niche. Pretty much everything is just offline concepts applied online (salesletter, lead-generation, direct-marketing, upsell, classified advertising etc)

I agree. The term basically started around the same time brand became a hot thing, especially stores/supermarkets. This actually hit the market in Europe and Canada, since such store chains weren't actually big in the US.

I think Willie Crawford once said that the term

"reprint rights" used to be what it was referred to as first and

then everyone started kind of using private label rights.

But "reprint rights" now means a totally different thing - the right to reprint as it appears but not the right to edit.

I always thought the "private label rights" came straight from manufacturers who have used it for years.

The manufacturer provided private label products for many top brand names - who attached their brand's labels (a rewrite?) and sold the product as their own.

The term 'private label rights' has been around way before the conception of the Internet, I suspect during the early days of the Industrial Age. The term 'private label rights' is relatively new to the Internet Marketing crowd only a few years back.

I also believe it was David Vallieres who first used the term in the context the OP is asking.

First person I personally remember using PLR for Internet marketing material was Bryan Kumar. But I don't know that he originated it.
