Should I Direct Traffic To My Landing Page Or My Home Page?

Hi Warriors.

My blog/website promotes my writing business through a home, about me, contact me, services and portfolio page. I currently have in place a landing page for my social media and forums traffic.

As for my business, I write articles for clients on a project-paid basis. I'm not sure if I can link my site or not so if you want a look, let me know. To help me out of course.

To be honest, my landing page is pretty weak. I haven't spent enough time on it, though I think my offer is good.

In your opinion, should I spend more time on developing a proper, professional landing page for this traffic, where I offer them a reduced price. Or direct my audience straight to my website home page.

Thanks very much for all your help!!

I'm assuming the landing page you are referring to is the one in your signature for this response. If so, when it first loads, it does not grab my attention like it should. Your offer there is pretty good, one I suspect many people would be interested in trying you out for the $1 promo price, so grab their attention with a nice graphic for the deal to grab them them right off the bat. Many people are visual, they glance around quickly to decide if they are interested before they start reading. Go look at some other similar services and compare how their promo pages load and look compared to yours. Think about what grabs you when you first go to a site.

You have your key components of the offer in standard sized font at the bottom of all your other text on the main right side. That text should be the main thing jumping off the page, in the viewers face immediately.

Hey there here is my 2 cents

    Make your landing page awesome

    make your homepage awesome!

Why settle for anything less than 110%

It depends on HOW you qualify the traffic

If the traffic is from an ad that promises something, make sure you point that traffic to a page that DELIVERS on the promise

If you're just spreading links around, a 'catchall' page that is somehow optimized is probably the best way forward for you

I agree, it depends on where the traffic is coming from.

For example if your traffic is coming from a Youtube channel, unless you've given the offer a shoutout, send it to your website.

If the traffic is coming from solo ads, send them to your landing page even if it is bad.

Ideally you should invest more time into improving your landing page though.

I'd go with the landing page

if you think it's weak then beef it up..

create 2 or 3 landers and test which one converts best..

    best of luck,

I would go with a landing page but

    1) entitle it "How to... *do/get whatever* ",

    2) incentivize it with a free download of some sort

    3) replace the distracting and irrelevant scrolling with a list of 5 or 6 benefits.

    4) swap/change the template view from left - right

Then in each email you send to your subscribers, you can add your website underneath your name.

Actually, having re-visited the page in your sig, I'm not sure what it is supposed to be... it appears that you're trying to blend a landing, sales, and webpage :-/

It depends on your traffic! If you can able to build your landing page by using your traffic then you can develop it. Your site and landing page both will help you a good reach if you built it in a right way! Good luck!

    Hi,

Thought id chime in here- some great points already made!

Once you are relatively happy with your landing page and home page - (btw- internet marketing is a case of continuously optimizing, in my opinion anyway) that you could do a split test A/B. A would be your landing page and B would be your home page. From there half your traffic would go to A, half to B- it would be an opportunity to see how many opt ins, conversion etc each test gets. Depending on what you wanted to achieve in the first place, it would give you a stronger idea of how to adapt your page moving forward.

    Hope this helps,

    JB

Okay IMO being a former graphic designer & perfectionist... I would change and get a new theme.

But I have to agree with the peeps on here & especially the following from Ian Jackon:

    1) entitle it "How to... *do/get whatever* ",

    2) incentivize it with a free download of some sort

    3) replace the distracting and irrelevant scrolling with a list of 5 or 6 benefits.

Then in each email you send to your subscribers, you can add your website underneath your name.

Actually, having re-visited the page in your sig, I'm not sure what it is supposed to be... it appears that you're trying to blend a landing, sales, and webpage :-/

    -------------------------

Here's what I would do... get yourself a new theme!!!

I would recommend a one-page theme... These are really HOT currently and really showcase your work & portfolio.

I have a book formatting company where I format peoples documents and give them the file needed for them to put their book on the Kindle/iBooks store. Here are a few websites I took inspiration from...

Focus Lab | Moving Organizations Forward through Branding and Interactive Solutions
eBook DesignWorks | Quality eBook Production Services

Your main aim is to have a professional and CLEAR website which showcases your work IMO.

Now once all is complete to answer your original question - direct traffic to the page that converts the best!! How do you do that? by split testing

    I hope this helps
    Samuel
