Wow, Ebay Selling Has Changed - For the Worse!

That doesn't sound right. I haven't sold on eBay in some time but I suspect that is not accurate. At least I hope it's not accurate.

When did this happen? We sold some stuff about a month ago and didn't have to reach the 24 item or $250 benchmark. Is it possibly just for Australia?

Notice they say you have to meet ALL the criteria, not do this OR that, but do this AND that.

And this is the ebay.com page, not ebay.com.au (Australia).

When is that policy applied?! if that is true it is really pain to have a bench mark of $250

plus the 90 days before you get paid! that is really something that must not be overlooked!!

I'm not sure you are reading that correctly and suggest you go to ebay forums to ask about it.

It talks about 25 transactions to establish a "track record" - and as one of the requirements to be paid "immediately". I don't see anywhere that says you won't "get paid" until you have 25 transaction

Yes, I agree, this is very offputting for sellers. I have tried to find out in ebay's business blog posts when this came in, but it is not archived. The page I have linked to above was one I was directed to where I was told our funds were "pending" and then I clicked on a "learn more" link, and the page above was what came up.
In the url of this page it is described as "funds availability - new" and the page heading is "Update for sellers . . ." but the post / article is not dated.

My beef is, it seems that this holding up of funds, potentially indefinitely, is NOT communicated to the seller during the listing process. I feel cheated, and my girls won't get their money unless I pay them myself.

ebay become pain in the ass, it's because they want probably to filter new sellers, not only to prevent spam and fraud buy also they want less competition for the main sellers, the big companies that sell at them

I can definitely see how it could be misinterpreted - very easily. However, I don't think the "25" is a requirement to be paid.

Seems to say you'll be paid after the order is fulfilled....in other words only after payment has cleared and time for complaint/refund may have passed.

I think this is a separate statement and (deliberately?) misleading as it refers to "immediate payment".

If you find out what the true requirements are - let us know.

Wow. Like everyone else I am really surprised. I used to sell a lot of CD's and shirts on there. It has been a few years though. The shipping costs are what were killing me. When I first clicked on this thread that's what I thought the problem was going to be. I would have never guessed the problems you listed.

Seeing you're here in Oz, try Gumtree.com.au It's a great site, costs you nothing, you and the other person communicate with no third party involvement controlling when it is paid, etc.

I have used both. eBay is good for some things and Gumtree for others.

This was first discovered if you had opened a new PayPal account recentlt - new policy is you can't touch the money for 20+ days.

eBay lost me years ago. They suck and they always will. Long live all the other great Internet retailers that are crushing them by the minute.

Those rules have been in place for at least two years now. I stopped selling on eBay because they charge too much for fees and my profit was minimal.

You can try Bonanza, it's a similar site but I don't think they make you wait for payment.

To be correct on eBay though, you need 25 positive seller ratings, not just 25 sales. Until you do that, sell $250 worth and wait 90 days, you'll be stuck in 'PayPal jail'.

Alternatively, if you have an old eBay account, or someone else you know will give you access, at least you can skip the 90 days.

The current policy is good policy. As someone that has maintained a 100% rating on there for more than a decade, I don't mind them making it more difficult (and keeping it more difficult) for scammers and quick hitters to operate.

I buy a lot of stuff off of ebay and the last thing I sold on there was a chair for more than $2500...I love ebay.

Have you really done your homework to see what the eBay processes are? I don't think so. I sell some on eBay and haven't experienced your "gloom and doom" at all.

Ranting on public forums wastes a lot of peoples' time. Rant instead to your best friend, your cat, or better yet, your pillow.

Ebay, like many others, are taking steps to stop scammers who post Amazon or CL ads on Ebay as, "arbitrage."

Watch for much more along these lines.

Have 100% feedback and an account for over 10 years and I've never ran into any problems such as those mentioned above.

However, a friend of mine opened a new account a few years ago I remember and they had to wait 30 days for funds to be available in their paypal account. It was general practice for new sellers and frankly I think it is good to weed out the scammers.

I remember at that time he researched it and it said if the buyer leaves you feedback that the funds might be released quicker.

It's one way to look at it. I'm sure there is another side and an opportunity that you can leverage.

It is part of the new system to hold funds until a good track record is shown, unfortunately with all the scam artists out there this is the result. It is unfortunate for new genuine users that they have to go through this too, Ebay should really highlight this a lot better than they do as well as the other options, but it is a good idea, if a bit annoying.

I didnt sold something on ebay but how it could be possible.There must be some error or might be your product is underreview or could be any thing happen.I suggest you to have words with customer support so that you may know it right way.They will guide you much better.May you also go for amazon ?

I'm a casual eBay seller at best. And I've never had a problem.

The one time I've had to wait for money (beyond the proof of delivery requirement) was when I sold a pair of Disney passes we weren't going to be able to use. Payment was withheld until the buyer posted positive feedback.

Turned out that the delay wasn't eBay's fault. It was the buyer's. Woman in Canada bought the tickets and had them mailed to a friend in the States. When I explained the predicament, she agreed to call the friend and verify that the tickets were legit. I had my feedback an hour or so later, and the money was released.

Of course, other than the listing fees and (usually) free shipping offer, I make 100% pure profit. My wife spends her TV time in front of her laptop entering various contests and sweeps - and she wins more than her share. The laptop I'm typing this on was a sweepstakes prize. Anyway, we just eBay the stuff she wins that we don't want to keep or can't use. Over the years, I've maintained 100% positive feedback as both a seller and a buyer.

FEE bay is a terrible company. This was not always the case. Back in the 90's they were great and I did use em. Sadly, amazon has been going to the FEE BAY school of consumer service. Notice how they are also getting max worse. Maybe Ali Baba and the forty thieves can rescue us.

BTW, remember that E-BAY and PAY PAL are two sep companies.

Ok, you need a strong track record on eBay or they withhold money until you are a trusted seller.

I'm actually doing Amazon to eBay arbitrage. I think you didn't understand well what the 25 transactions are for.

In fact, the 25 transactions are just one of the three criteria you need in order to start getting paid instantly.

Selling on eBay is still amazing. Why? Simply because of their huge organic traffic.
