How to monetize a general traffic site?
I have a Viralnova/Digg type of site and and am moving towards capturing email addresses. I'm scratching my head as I plan on a good way to monetize general traffic.
Thoughts at the moment: I want to get away from AdSense because I don't think they're good for email-based traffic, and they are getting strict about viral site traffic.
Right now I'm thinking of doing a daily "best of web" newsletter that includes the day's top articles and a daily deals section that sends them to mass appeal Amazon products (as an affiliate). What constitutes mass appeal, I haven't figured out yet. I'll probably just sell whatever is on a huge discount or is cool/zany/weird in a good way.
