I hope this doesn't come across as rude or dismissive, but ... They call themselves "sites that pay you to blog" but the reality is that actually you're paying them. The money out of which they pay you a proportion is typically money that your blog has earned, and they're splitting it with you. If, instead, you own your own blog, guess what? You get to keep all the money your blog makes instead of just being "paid a commission out of it", not controlling your blog, not owning it, having to comply with someone else's changeable terms of service, and having no remedy if it disappears, gets axed, or if someone else's business goes under. I can see that these places do have their uses to some people, but be aware of the arrangement you're getting into, the fact that you can do better on your own, and that they're not always quite what they appear to be. That was the end of the public health warning, normal service will now be resumed. |

| They may vary. I don't claim to have read all the terms of every one of these "services". But in brief they pay you some of the income they derive from your work. In a nutshell they're effectively charging you a proportion of your own income as a hosting-fee, in other words. They don't really provide anything you can't provide for yourself. But for someone simply unwilling to do so, who wants it all to be ready-made and is willing to pay for the privilege, I suppose they're not altogether indefensible. As you might have gathered, even though I'm a total technological ignoramus myself, I wouldn't touch one. You don't even own or control "your own" blog. If that doesn't put you off, what would? |
