Interesting - This is what happened to my product sales..

Hey All,

I work in the culinary teaching niche and I have a question regarding selling my classes/services/etc.

I offer a few video and learning packages for cooking where the price point is around 30$. I've been selling them for a few years and making a decent income.

I had a high up ranking IMer that told me to NEVER to discount my services, instead attach a free package when people buy one of your packages. I loved the advice believed in it and followed it blindly.

Since then, my sales have been down. After doing some analytic work, I noticed the bulk of my revenue and sales comes from when I have my discounts, my holiday deals and my promos where I slash the price.

I still sell a few here and there but overall I havent made as much money.
My other thought about packaging in another package free with it, wouldnt that be the same thing, it just doesn't look as enticing to the buyer.

I feel that the buyers only want discounts, they want freebies too, but not as much as they want discounts.

What's your feeling on this? Should I stick to my guns and make less and maintain my products self worth or say screw it, make more money and sales and give some discounts?

Thanks everyone I really appreciate any help at all!

I don't know what a "high up ranking IMer" is . . . but it's foolhardy for any business owner to take this blind advice and base your whole business on it.

I would suggest you test and track various offers and price points and see which ones work best for you and your customers.

Are you building a list of prospects and buyers? That should be a top priority. Most profitable online business owners will tell you the bulk of their income is from backend sales.

I would also suggest you think carefully regarding how you are positioning your business. Are you building around customers that only want and expect deep discounts? You know, there is a better way. You could focus your efforts on creating a business that caters to people who have money and will be glad to spend it with you. But you have to make the conscious decision to build your business around these prospects.
