Made this video to follow on from the one found here

In this video I talk about internal pages Vs root domains ranking. This is a big subject and this video just scratches the surface but hopefully will give an insight.

I used pitch prompts for this video which makes me sound a bit wooden, hopefully you don't drop off to sleep while listening to it. I also made a hash of recording the video and had to re-record the screen captures and edit audio over it. Practice makes perfect though, when I get better at it I will go back over old videos and try to make them more interesting.

I am not clear about the 301 redirect stuff. Would love further information in that regard.

A 301 re-direct is a permanent re-direct. You create it by adding a couple of lines of server side code.

Lets say for instance I sell "Blue Widgets". And I sell them on:

www.domain.com/bluewidgets.html

Lets also say I have built many links to this page and it ranks well. There may come an occaision where I have to change the link, say for instance I move it into a subfolder so the link becomes:

www.domain.com/widgets/bluewidgets.html

All the link juice is now going to the wrong page or possibly a non existent page. By using a 301 re-direct you can pass the link juice onto the new page and keep your webpage ranking without loosing position.
