Lucy,

On your latest design, this is just me talking to you and not from a judging point of view, but...

...i'm loving the color and feel of this design, personally your front picture, i think needs something else, possibly a tagline font and placement change,

I think if Karl is up for it, we should give our personal thoughts on each entry, been 2 designers held in highish acclaim it might be good for some up and coming designers to get our thoughts and opinions,

Karl, you up for this?

As we'll be using the design for the compo, I think it's a good idea...

To save giving a new reply with each entry, I reckon each of us can give comments once a day on the actual designs... sound fair?

Yeah fine by me, that way we can push the great designers down a certain path - after all ideally we want to get a design that in essence encapulates the minisite wars concept,

Can I finish off Lucy though....

I'll say one word for your design, Gravestones, I'll leave that will you, take it how you will.

Im feeling very cryptic today

Thanks

i dont see how the guys with their fingers up works here, whats your thinking with those, thought the side was fine, the man with the gun, war etc...

possibly duplicate the number of gravestones, and put designers names on, you get more of what i was getting at,

I dont want everyone to start doing this, but basically Lucys design led this way to me,

I'm saying too much, shhhh!

Thanks

Personal opinion-

Let people design their covers according to the theme and then select a winner. If you start giving opinions and tell a select few people on what they should do to improve their designs, then it isn't a contest at all I am afraid.

People should be allowed their own creativity. Whether they are good or not.

If you start telling people what "you" think then it's not their design or opinion of their design, now isn't it? You are basically instilling your own ideas into their design. To me that is not what a competition is all about.

The wind whispers my name as the universe spreads her immortal wings to enfold me.
I walk the path to the land of dark immortals, where the hungry ones will carry my soul.

Point taken, thanks Sarah.

We'll be working with the winner on the final image anyway, so, back to normal service - this is a free-for-all.

Great work so far guys n gals - some real talent (as I suspected).

There are some really nice submissions in this thread, wow! (and I'm a fussy bunny)

I followed this competition last year and my husband and I purchased quite a few spots, so will definitely be looking into snagging a few this time around as well.

I also think it's great that the two designers running the show aren't competing this year, definitely keeps things on a level playing field and lets you both contribute in a different way.. (Although Darren did a great job with managing it all the last time around.)

It's nice to see this thread in the main area so that it gets the attention it deserves, but when is the actual launch date of the site?

Hi Kate...

once we've got the designers in place, and the site set up - we're going to start on the marketing side.

So much to do, so little time... lol.

Ok, my second and final entry. I had this imagery in my head that I thought would really capture the competition slogan (I hope it does ). This is my attempt to put it on paper, so to speak. I'm sure there's a lot that can be done to improve this, but for me playtime is over now Need to get some real work done. Have fun guys.

Anyway, for those designers out there.

Remember that this is a very good marketing for you. Many of us are looking into this thread to see the works that is being displayed. Some of the new bloods show promising works and this could mean new business to you.

Dont just look at this from the competition standpoint, but look at this as a long term future investment deal.

They're comps...

you download them before committing to buy a photo to test it in your image - directly from the stock photo website.

Not sure about whether you can display comps in public though.

The images are from istockphoto. They let you download comps for concept and proofing - the images of course have to be bought if your project gets approved by your client.

Not sure about whether you can display comps in public though.
I see we both posted at the same time. You do have a valid point. Does anyone know about posting in public?

Can anyone put instructions on here about how to put the pictures of the ecovers directly in the post instead of just as an attachment. It, may be easy but I can't figure it out. Thanks

Don't upload it... pull it in from another server with the img tag.
