Default [QUICK] $100 up for grabs... design an ecover for MinisiteWars

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Darren and I both agree that the cover that most captures the wars is Pulp Minisites entry... who are the winners of $100

With so many talented entries not making the top spot, we've decided to put the 5 runner up places to public vote... Darren and I have chosen our favourite 10 and are launching a POLL to decide the overall 5 runners up. Will be a new thread, as this one has become quite unwieldy

Here's the voting thread: MINISITE WARS - ECOVER JUDGING - YOU DECIDE

Good luck everyone, and congratulations to Pulp Minisites.

I hope you've all picked up a few enquiries from potential clients from this thread...

The battle may be over, but the WARS have only just begun.

-------

By the way, Darren won our bout of paper, scissors, stone... with a cheap shot. He made a paper aeroplane and speared me with it from across the room.

======================

A (made up) story...

Darren Kaye, a.k.a GraphicsGenie was in my neck of the woods the other day, wearing a trenchcoat and abusing the locals. I confronted him about his deviant behaviour and he became aggressive. As I'm a rock-hard-kick-ass-ninja-blackbelt, I was able to disarm the situation and at the same time I stole his wallet (for the prizemoney)

As we all know, Warriors are the most talented bunch of homosapiens on the planet and we have a need for the best designers for MinisiteWars 2008.

To help us discover who these designers are, Darren (Baldrick) and I came up with a cunning plan...

How about we put up a competition in the WarriorForum offering $100 for the best designed ecover (chosen by us) for Minisite Wars... WHAT?!?!?! $100 for an ecover? Yes indeedy!!!

The theme/spec:

MiniSiteWars 2008 - An epic battle of graphicial proportions
Two Designers - One Website - One Winner, You!

(many thanks to Peter Bestel for the winning tagline)

The rest is up to you...

If you're good, you may also be contacted by Darren and I about participating in this year's wars.

So, show off your skills - even if you don't win the $100, all these lovely warriors will get to see how awesomely amazing you are and you might get a few new clients out of it. You could also be selected as a combatant in the wars and win a nice big wad of the green stuff in the process.

You can enter as many times as you like...

The competition starts NOW and ends next Sunday...

GOOD LUCK.

Karl.

P.S. Any questions - let me know.

A (made up) story...

During a trip to the redneck area of Lancashire, namely Morecambe in a search for the mythical beast known only as Karl 'ninja my arse' Warren my wallet was very crudely stolen. It felt like I was been pickpocketed by a dump truck.

Due to this REALLY poor attempt at stealth I decided to throw this dog a bone, a whipped out $100 from my wad and told this overgrown sack of spuds to work on his skills.

Clearly he isnt using the $100 for that... oh well, an ecover for minisite wars was the next best thing...

Good luck on your designs, anything goes, impress and your half way into the competition already, last year our top designer pocketed $2000

This year it could be YOU!

Darren...

you made me cry... I thought I had uber-super-mega-stealth and you say I'm nothing more than a sack of King Edwards.

I'll have the last laugh when I come to Heckmondwike or should I say, in my best Yorkshire accent: 'ckm'nd'waaaak.

Hi Earl...

please post a link to it in the thread.

I might ask the winning entry for the PSDs just in case I need to make any minor amendments at the end before we use it on the site.

Kindest regards,
Karl.

lol, we've decided not to compete as we're running the compo.

But, everyone knows I'd beat Darren with one graphics tablet tied behind my back - we'll have a design off one day and show the world who the master of the universe is.

Yes...ok, well, you not actually competing against each other makes a bit of a mockery of my previous post...

But, I hope I win anyway.

You probably mentioned that in the OP but I missed it!

Keeping in touch with this $100 ecover, can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! Shame Darren can't enter cause he'd beat you hands down Karl, sorry mate! I mean't to say that it would be a tough battle, with Darren JUST beating you!

(I'm going off-topic now!)

Karl, I need an ecover made, can give you the brief, will pay $10 and it will be the winning cover in this competition. Simple. You design it, I'll pay you a small amount, and collect the prize money

Nope. I am not entering.... but.... I was inspired and decided to come up with something that would be... funny. Well my reasoning would be. :P

Enter for fun Karl. You'll have to go through the trauma of disqualifying yourself if you win, but at least your skills will be on display, and I'm sure Darren will give you a sympathetic shoulder to cry and dribble gooey stuff on. See, doesn't that sound like fun already?

I'm in guys. Expect something any moment from me.
A little busy, though, i'll get to put up something.
This is going to be fun.

Olatunde.

Hey Nicholas, do you remember me? We had a chat together
back at a forum called conqueryourniche.com some months ago.
You dished out some tips on graphic designing that i followed
and got awesome results. I can't remember where that link is now
(maybe when i get it, i'll send it to you so you'll be able to recall).

I've updated my portfolio with the new designs i've just created just
as you adviced and you can have a look at it in my sig. below.
Hope to see more of you here.

Warmest regards.

NO!

Well not to me Nic

What you don't know about Darren is that he is very very hairy, somewhat like a Wookie. If any tears got within spitting distance of him, he'd smell like a wet dog.

So I'm afraid that I'd have to win - to negate the need for tears

Aaaaaargh, I'm jealous now - a competitive sonovagun-ninja-potato-head like me gets all twitchy when he can't show off his skills... shame I can't enter the compo and win $100
Karl,

Think film festivals. There are also out-of-competition entries. So you post your ecover with the tag line
"This would be the winner if I was allowed to enter".

Then, of course, Darren would follow suit and then you would have an out-of-competition competition, if you see what I mean.

Bev, a few issues here,

1) It would be fraud - you'd have to get Sherlock on your own ass

2) Karl design the perfect cover, pfft! c'est impossible!

Thanks

Hi Olatunde. I remember. Don't specifically remember it being you, but I remember giving advice to someone there as it was probably the last time I posted on that forum. Glad it helped You certainly have improved in a big way. The more you do it, the better you'll get.

Quite creative,

But I do believe you have got the wrong idea about MiniSite Wars, it isnt about me and Karl, we are the organisers, it is a competition I hosted last year where 32 designers battled it out for a $2000 first prize, in total $4000 in prize money was paid out.

So any designs with GraphicsGenie or eCover Ninja wont be able to be used in the final site, but it is certainly good fun,

Just didnt want you spending too much time on the wrong concept

Thanks

As long as you once your off the leash you dont go to the nearest piece of grass and empty your bowells, dont think the other entrants would be too happy,

Good Luck

Darren, I offered Karl $10 to design the perfect cover for me, so no fraud, he does it as I outsource to him. He ignored my offer of $10 today, so might have to go higher with the offer

Will contribute in a second - just a few more lines of rendering and it is done!
Hope you guys wouldn't mind my comment on the cover, I am being naughty
