Brand New Affiliate Blogger: Stuck Between Two Niches

Hey there!

I am brand new to this forum and affiliate marketing in general. I have been experimenting with entrepreneurship for about a year now and have finally decided to go this direction.

My main holdup is having to decide between two niches that I have a strong interest in.

The two niches are coffee and wine. I love both beverages and the craft behind them intrigues me greatly. I would love to study either one to become an expert and provide value to my audience.

I am just having a hard time deciding which one has a better marketplace as an affiliate. I see that coffee is more widely consumed in the United States, but I know wine is huge globally as well.

Any insights on which may be a stronger choice, or how I can go about figuring this out would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hey there welcome to this great forum

    Nice to have you aboard!

You could try and brainstorm some sub niches for example:

====>a site about a specific coffee say decaf?

    or

====>a site about the best winery's in the world

I am really not too sure if there are affiliate programs that have enough scale for this type of thing but you could find it easily enough!

Look around the forum there is a ton of great information on affiliate marketing here

How long do you think people will be making money from blogs?

Sorry to put this on you, but I'd rather save you your time and money, than let you waste both on a dead end.

Take it or leave it. You have been cautioned.

So you are saying those two are horrible options? Or just affiliate marketing through a blog in general?

        Wow

That was pretty harsh. Maybe you should ask him to find out the source of his bitterness rather than make all those assumptions. My one and only assumption is that maybe at some point in his life he may have been an affiliate marketer who failed miserably at it and now he has become so disillusioned with it that he is trying to "save" others from the same fate.

I'd have never built any business, much less the ones (plural) I have built.

One person doesn't own a market.

Vaynerchuk doesn't own the entire wine market.

And go to Brooklyn. Hipster paradise. Plenty of folks selling coffee there even though there's other folk doing it too.

Posting like a naysayer on everything doesn't make you smart.

It means you are more than likely fearful and you try to use logic to justify your fear. No business owner who makes it in this world operates that way.

Only folks who make a career out of posting on forums.

P.S. I'm in NYC. The entire city is full of businesses that have plenty of competition. Yet plenty of 'em are turning over more in a day than you will see in your entire life. If you can't stomach the world of business ... fine. But why are you posting on marketing forums? Is this your "chat room" and your life sucks and you have no friends so you just come here to build yourself up? I'd bet good money that's the case.

Folks like you are why real entrepreneurs don't come to Warrior Forum. It takes courage to go into business.

        You have NONE.

All you can do is tell everyone the sky's falling.

Every single successful business that you can think of ... would have had plenty of logical reasons for not foraging ahead.

Honda shouldn't have tried to come into the US. Ford and General Motors had it on lockdown.

        Look at Honda now.

        Same with Toyota.

Google shouldn't have come online. Yahoo had the web sewn up in 1998.

        Look at Google now.

Every small mom and pop around the world had everyone telling them NOT to go in business.

Yet plenty of 'em do and they do succeed.

You have no business. You have no courage. You have nothing but your naysaying to make you feel better about not doing a damn thing in this world ... except posting on WaFo.

        Wow.

Who ever wanted to be YOU when they grew up?

Not a damn soul on this Earth. That's who. Nobody dreams about being the forum snark on WaFo one day.

Yet ... that's who you are. That's who you grew up to be:

The dude who builds nothing but wants to destroy everything.

        Way to go!

        :-)

If you don't mind me asking.

What is the best way to make money online or offline?

Are you asking because you're trolling? Or are you asking because you're genuinely interested in the answer? I can tell you that it isn't buying and selling gold...and directories are pretty terrible too.

Maybe a little of column A and a little of column B, but overall I am genuinely curious.

btw I am making money with both (well maybe more with buying and selling gold than the directory) but I am always open to new suggestions from experts such as yourself.

In which direction are you going?? Before I'm able to intelligently comment on which niche to choose, I would be curious to know in which direction you've chosen to go. What value will you be offering to your audience?

I would love to study either one to become an expert and provide value to my audience.

Which is it: Expert or Affiliate?? It's not that you have to choose between the two, but it's highly likely you will. Experts tend to lean toward making an income by providing excellent content that helps their audience (blog, email marketing, webinars, coaching) then offering an affiliate product/service after that.

Many affiliates don't become experts. Most simply promote an affiliate product by way of others' content. (blog, email marketing, webinars, coaching...but others are the experts)

Before choosing between coffee and tea (you're right, coffee is more widely consumed in the US. In fact, I have a Starbucks coffee next to me now ) I recommend you choose what value you will be providing and in what manner.

Vid Yo brings up a good point. You have to establish if you are going to be an affiliate in the coffee or wine niche or if you want to establish yourself as an expert. If you decide to be the expert you would focus on amazing content to teach people about the niche. the traffic would come naturally as you increase your content. Then you could monetize this traffic later.

If you want to do the affiliate thing then you can focus on reviewing different coffees or wines, or you could review other affiliate products and make a commission.

I disagree with a previous poster that you should stay away from this niche. Any niche has potential whether it has too much competition or not.

      thanks.

    Hmmmm interesting...

Well you could go with both, set up website and do both.

In terms of what would make you more money, the reality is whatever oe you are truly more passionate about. I could see Wine selling more IMO.

You could sell your own products/courses on wine tasting, making your own wine etc. That's where I would see the money.

    I hope this helps

Well, I struggled for 18 years trying to make money, and I was scammed a lot because I will try to make money overnight. This way was my big mistake. Earn money overnight doesn't exist.

The only way that I found to have a real business online was to make a blog in my passion niche that is internet marketing and writes valuable content. In this way, my site is ranking on Google, Bing and Yahoo and they send me organic traffic.

For each post you will receive in average five visitors so, you need to write a lot to obtain 1000´s of prospects per month. You will need one year at least to have your online business making enough money.

I hope this honest answer can help you in this great adventure

What I would do in order to make the deccision between cofee/wine, is to go to Google.com/trends. You can check out the competition for both. This should help you to decide. NExt go to adwords and use the free keyword planner. This will give you a lot of keywords in order to create content around. But...

Before wasting your time, find at least 3 affiliate programs that you want to promote. Below is a list that will help you with that.

    Here's what to look for:
1.Find a one off aff-product that sells for around $50 (ideally)that you will make at least 50% commissions. Use this as your front end promotion to start a buyers list. (Yup, you need to list build.)
2.Find a premium residual or monthly program that you can promote and make at least 25% commissions with for your niche.

Write articles around these programs in your niche and get them to join your list.

This is totally right. Before going to far like making websites and spend money in promotions, check first your competitions if they are doing well and generate enough profits. Remember to find low competition niches but have high search volume.

@1Bryan Yes, I agree. I have been in this forum long enough and joined several MMO forums to see lots of successes and not to mention failures in many aspects. Many veterans who joined this forum around the same time as me will agree with you.

Also, I watched the posts made by DRP before. Every time someone asked about things like this, he always encouraged them to quit. He was even banned before due to insulting other members. Yes, some people are just like that. They think they know everything, but in the end, they fail to lead others to succeed. If you save that kind of advice to people that you know personally offline, then that's fine. But to talk like that in open forum, that is silly. That's why, when someone asked him about what kind of models that works, he refused to answer. Yes, I agree, some things work for others, some doesn't. It depends on you.

DRP loves his day job a lot, and I'm just curios, what does people like him tried to accomplish in internet marketing forum, where tons of successful entrepreneurs in here.
