Default Attn: Article Marketers - Would it help to know which article sale came from?

I love getting sales via articles, but it's frustrating to not know what article generated the sale.

I know with SOME directories you can add a Clickbank TID to the link and do other convoluted stuff that's a lot of work.

I am currently doing a redirect through my own domain (via index.php) so that I can put links in ezine (top level domain only - and I don't think they allow parameters after the domain).

So..

I created some code in my index.php that determines the website that the click came from and in most case, the actual article # and puts that in a TID to go to the merchant site and then clickbank so I can track the sale.

Is this innovative or did I just recreate the wheel that someone else has already invented and perfected?

thanks,
PCRoger.

We use a simple re-direct tracking procedure like this for tracking sales if we need to.

It's not something we spend too much time on recently, but it is easy to implement with tracking ID's etc from your own domains..

Pretty much the same as you describe here.

I've never seen it written about before (although I have no doubt some people are doing it). I do alot of article marketing and I'd love to be able to track which articles sales are coming from. Sounds technical though - for someone lacking in such skills I'd need it explained in the simplest of terms!

You might try Statcounter - StatCounter Free invisible Web tracker, Hit counter and Web stats. It's free, and in most cases, you can see the referring page a site visitor comes from. Not sure if it would provide specific enough info to determine what article on an article site was the source of the traffic, but I think it would.

I use google analytics, too, but those won't say which clicks actually BOUGHT - unless someone can show me...

thanks,
PCRoger.
