Default A copyright question

I'm thinking about registering the name of a popular book as a domain, as it gets a lot of search's, without giving it away I can say the title has 6 words which are all very generic and in common use, two of the words are "your"

is there likley to be any copyright issue with this?

If it is the actual title of the book, I believe you could end up with trademark issues. Not sure copyright applies to the title or not. But the publisher or the author would likely have major issues with you using the title.

My NON expert opinion would be YES you will eventually have trouble with it. You may be able to fly under the radar for a while, but I think eventually you will get slapped with a cease and desist order if not something worse.

Best case scenario... you don't have to spend any money defending yourself... not a good "best case.'

This can turn into a real hair-ball real quickly. In 2002 I wrote a book titled Power Prospecting. In 2006 some guy trademarked the term Power Prospecting and now he's got his lawyer writing me cease and desist letters. For a book that was written 5 years previously!

I have no earthly idea how valid this claim is (but you can always get some cheeseball lawyer to file a suite) but the point is that you want to make sure that you get full clearance on the title. If you need inexpensive legal assistance I've had good results with legal zoom.com

Good luck

Copyright doesn't, trademark does.
