Default What are you paying for Domain Names?

Hi Everyone,

I've been paying $10 a pop. Is there anywhere to buy just the domain names for cheaper?

Thanks

I get them at godaddy for less.(when using a coupon).

Type in godaddy coupon or discount + month and yr to find current ones.

goto google
"cheap domain names" for new domains
"cheap domain renewals" for renewals

should see godaddy ad at top for $6.99 - $7.49

I quit screwing with the coupons, haven't seen one beat their ad

What is the catch for the $1.99 domains at Godaddy. Just one domain? It says no limit. Does anybody know the catch. There has got to be a catch.

The catch is that you have to buy hosting or some other service.

Yes, but can I buy more than one domain, and do I have to buy them all at once? Can I buy more later at $1.99? My guess is no.

I think you can buy any domain for $1.99 as long as you buy extra services for that domain.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

$1.99 for one domain per service.

It's cheaper to get a domain with coupons, unless there's a service you're actually interested in purchasing.

What GoDaddy coupon gets cheaper than $6.99? that's what the GoDaddy ad is if you search as I described above.

$7.75 via Moniker. Their standard rate is around $8.10 but I've got 130+ domains so get special pricing.

But yeah, Moniker are a very good registrar. Not too well known outside of domaining circles, but definitely one of the better ones.

I had a VERY bad experience there.

Unless they have changed, you cannot even conveniently see when domains are expiring and whether or not they are set to renew automatically.

All of the key tools are via URL's that you cannot find from any menu, you have to contact support and ask "how the heck do I..." then they email you the URL as if you were an idiot and should know that.

Hopefully they have improved since I was there.

$3 for info, $10 for .com, but still worth it.

I don't care if they give you a free domain, you're asking for trouble if you use a hosting service from the same company that acts as your registrar.

Why is that? I've always got my domains from the host companies i've used. Always thought if I did it any other way it would get very fiddly trying to sort it all out.

Normally around 10 bucks, I keep forgeting about the coupon!! What is slightly annoying is if you change it to Pounds, it should work out cheaper due to exchange rate but they seem to add extra on to make it more expensive.

Anyway, since changing to godaddy, I've never changed since then. Godaddy + Hostgator = easy!

$8.40/domain at Enom through some deal a friend of mine set up for me - not sure exactly how he worked that out.

Maybe someone else might know?

Maybe he set me up as a reseller and I don't even know it.

LOL.

All their domains are automatically on auto-renew which is stated when you register them. The site to view auto-renew dates or to cancel a domain is listed in their main site though you have to look carefully to find it. This info is on a subdomain of the 1and1 site. Once you have asked how to cancel a domain it's easy to go back to the subdomain url to view all of your renewal dates.

They also send reminders to you via email well before the date of auto-renew.

I have had nothing but problems with 1 and 1 - this might just be isolated to me personally, but I'd rather pay the $10 which I registered through Google's Blogger interface, and have it for the year and just renew.

Moniker is the most secure domain registration company online.

They are brilliant, no better way to describe them.

Got about 120 domains all told, bulk customer pricing $7.75 is correct.

Dynadot.com is also at the same price, fantastic customer service and very, very intuitive and easy to use backend, with no upselling.

I find GoDaddy frankly annoying. On my very first domain name I bought several years ago, I ended up paying way more than I needed, because of all the upsells and options they push at you.

I've been with NameCheap ever since. Straight forward good.

The September coupon code for NameCheap is "dreamtime"

That takes a .com registration down to $8.88 and, of course, includes WhoIsGuard for the year. Not a bad deal.

"swinefluzombies.com" ...? What a name?!

What were you going to do with the site, noghost31?

The last three I got at Godaddy were 89cents each. Plus the ICAN fee so they cost me $3.17 total for the three of them, I think. They were .info of course, but they work just as well to hold my place on the vast world wide web.

You can use domainswithbenefits.com to get $5 domains - used domains. The next highest would be 7.19 (for dot coms) I think at godaddy using the coupons. Search for godaddy "monthname" coupons and you will get lots of them

Type "godaddy promo codes" on Google. FatWallet has a long list of codes. That saves me a ton. I also buy in bulk which saves more $$$.
