WP Plugin `simple tags` What exactly are tags ?? Just keywords ?? PLS help

Hi Guys,
Just a quick post,

I`ve just added the plugin simple tags just because i read it was a very good plugin for my blog , There it is in the top right hand corner of my dashboard but i just want to make sure i know what this does.

Yes i know this sounds stupid but what exactly are tags i`ve always just thought they where like keyword but now i have this plugin i`ve really only just thought hard about it and the truth is i`m not 100% sure are they just keywords i feel are important to my post ?? And do i just type them into the simple tags box ??

    As far as I know, those are the tags you add to your posts. If visitor clicks on them, they will take him to post(s) those tags are assigned to.

      Thanks for your reply but i really dont understand what you mean,

      Now when i go to my dashboard in WP to write a new article in the top righthand side theres a box saying `simple tags` and another box under it where i write my `tags` it says space with commas.

      I just want to know exactly what tags are , are they just like keywords ??

      Can you explain how a visitor can click on them and where he or she has found them ?? Your saying to take them to the post the tag is assigned to well where did they see the tag in the first place ??

      Sorry if i sound stupid i`ve just never really though what exactly are `tags` before.

    Hi Jim,

    Tags are basically keywords. They are a "new" flashy web 2.0 term for them that makes them trendy.

    By putting tags on your posts yu can display a tag cloud which shows the more popular terms in bigger letters than the less popular terms. The visitor can click on these terms and see all the posts that are tagged with that term.

    Tags = hip and trendy keywords

        To add in on about Tags is that it also add in more pages if your blog is link to Technorati, this way you will be able to go horizontal for your blog, getting it more exposed on the Internet.

        By the way, if you do keyword research on your niche, you should add in the keywords in the tag as well.
