Should I use Google or Facebook campaigns to promote my site?

27 replies
Hi,
I am thinking of starting a new site. Does it make sense to use Google or Facebook campaigns to promote the site? If yes, which of these would be better?

Suppose I start a wordpress site and add Google Adsense to it. Additionally, I spend about $100 a month on Google or Facebook campaign. Is this method likely to result in some monthly net income / profit?

    What? Spending $100 monthly on G/FB ads to get income from your new site & Adsense? You need to learn more...

    There is a lot of options to promote your website and to make money with it even without spending a dollar. You can try youtube for better result with the same money you can invest in, rather than create a new site just for adsense.

    Search on this forum and learn more a bit. Keep your money save until you understand what you will do. Good luck!

    Hey, you can start facebook campaign. It will be better if you create a page about your niche. Then firstly you make some campaign for the page like and try to make better engagement in your post.

    And then start retargeting campaign. It will be better for authority. and you will get lead/sales...

      Re-targeting is a great idea, but sending traffic to a FB page where u have less control isn't what you wanna do..

      send it to your blog/squeeze page.

      sure its a little bit more expensive but it eliminates useless steps...

      Ultimately, u want more subs on your list so send them straight to your site.

      Best of luck,

    I would use google for your campaigns since Facebook has been caught before by sending false clicks to campaigns. Plus you can target a better audience with google campaigning.

    hey there hope your having a nice day!

    If you want my opinion you need to get your new site optimized properly and I would use

    $100 to buy a premium responsive theme that is ready for seo.

    Then make your site good and ready, otherwise the traffic visiting will be useless anyways

    if your site is not up to scratch!

      Spot on advice from, shaunybb. With you being new to online marketing, RK, I'd recommend you put that $100 into the site and simply learn a free traffic generation method for now. You'll be better off, I'd think.

      Here you go:
      • ThemeForest.net for WP themes.
      • Codecanyon.net for WP plugins.
      I could recommend themes and plugins, but it depends on your type of website.

      What I can do, though, is offer some traffic advice. These are a few ways you can quickly turn on the traffic, and they're all very newbie-friendly:
      • Posting on niche forums, using a signature like I'm doing.
      • Quality comments on relevant blogs; linking to relevant pages on your own blog.
      • Optimizing for low-comp keywords (get Yoast SEO plugin; it'll kind of walk you through ranking, if you turn those lights green).
      • Setup social platforms, grow them, and share your content to them; Facebook, G+, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
      • Guestblogging. Blogs are hungry for content, so you can approach bloggers, offering to give them a blog post in exchange for a link to your blog in that post.
      Those 5 are nice and easy to start with, and you'll probably find detailed information about them on WF.

      Lastly, with you considering a blog, I'd also concentrate your efforts on learning how to blog effectively by absorbing how other bloggers do it on their blogs.

      Best of luck with everything!

      - Tom

    $100 a month??? Are you kidding me? It's very expensive. I think you should use Facebook or the method without money to promote your site. Because you are only the beginner. You must find more experience before use a lot of money for promoting.
    One more, I think you can use $100 to SEO your website on TOP GOOGLE instead of use Google or Facebook Adsense
    Good luck for you!!!!

    Honestly no.

    To make good money with adsense you need lots of traffic.

    I'd have a rethink.

    If you're new, I suggest free traffic methods.

    Only use paid methods when you're more experience

      Agree. Free traffic is the best option when you are new. Paid methods is very tricky in order to optimize your campaigns, landing pages within your budget etc. Plus, if you are monetizing your website using affiliate links, you will have to stop your campaigns first, in order to wait for the first check, before you can cover your initial cost.

    Google Adsense is risky. You can go for facebook campaign. But you need a custom audience. Neither you will lose your money.

    If am to pick any of the two then I will go for Google.

    Unfortunately, either of the two can be successfully run on a meagre budget.

    Depends on a wide variety of things,

    1. What's your offer?
    2. What does your sales funnel look like?
    3. What is your income goal?

      Hi Aron,

      1) On this site, I want to put up interesting GK facts (fun, interesting trivia) - in articles of about 150 words each.
      2) There is no sales objective as such, which is why I was thinking of adsense.
      3) I do not really have a income goal in mind - but if i have to think of some figure, I think for starters even 200$ or 300$ a month profit for the first month would be a massive achievement.

    Thanks, Aron.

    I have one question. If i have a site with GK related content, then would I be able to use affiliate marketing - i.e. would there be some meaningful product? Also, would it be possible to use affiliate marketing as well as adsense?

    Hey

    So here's what I would do which others above have also mentioned...

    1) Create a well designed responsive Wordpress website... More and more people are viewing websites on there mobiles/tablets so a well designed responsive website is a must! This will help reduce bounce rate. Google loves LOW bounce rate websites...

    I recommend Themify Ultra. I have used this theme on many of my websites. There are however a load more themes to choose from on themeforest.

    2) Once created, start blogging! Write SEO rich content, of which are obviously top quality content that people will want to ready and find value.

    **On Page activities includes:

    * Must-have unique content
    * Updated Meta Title and Meta Tags
    * Image alt tags etc.
    * Make URL's short & Sweet
    * Use images, videos, Diagrams to decrease bounce rate
    * Post content should be around 1,900 + words

    **Off page activities include:

    * boost site speed
    * Social bookmarking
    * Blog Submission and commenting - Disqus
    * Link Building (backlinks & relevant outgoing links)
    * Forum Commenting
    * Classifieds
    * Local Listing
    * Drive traffic on site from social media to create a Facebook Fan page including Twitter, Linked In and Google.

    3) You should see organic traffic coming in (target for short & long tail keywords). The next step IMO is to get some free reports written up. The don't have to be long - QUALITY over QUANTITY!! Why a free report/ebook? Well this will help generate leads and build yourself a list.

    The money is in the list...

    4) Get yourself an autoresponder. I personally use GetResponse. Write some content once someone signs up to your list to download your report. REMEMBER VALUE!!

    This is where you can promote to a ebook you have for sale. IMO it should be related in some way to your free product. Put a link at the end of every email. Don't come accross as SPAMMY though.

    5) My next step would be then as you mentioned above - create some Facebook ads. I personally wouldn't spend as much as you stated. However send them directly to your website and IMO a squeeze/sales page.

    I use Thrive Themes for my pages.

    6) Set up a Youtube channel, this is a great way to get a great deal of FREE traffic.

    P.S When your'e using ads such as Facebook - start low. Test different ads, i.e Title's, different images etc and see which one generates more clicks and leads. Then from there SCALE UP.

    I hope this helps pal,
    Samuel

    yes. it can give some profit but to me best option is rank your than easily you can more traffic without paying. others sense I think by spending 100 d will not able give that much return from adsence. so better is do seo and bring your site at top then receive unlimited traiffic and Good amount of return. Thanks

    To be brutally honest . . . no!

    RK, as others have said, put your wallet away until you have a simple but smart game plan.

    Paid advertising can be a huge black hole if you don't know what you're doing. It also doesn't make sense to spend on advertising until you have an engaging web site to call your home base in the niche.

    Adsense will not make you a decent profit unless you have mega traffic.

    Focus on a deep niche which you find by doing market research to see what is in demand.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

    Most effective is using both. Google ads can put you front and center when someone is searching for a specific product or service you sell. Expect higher click through rates and conversions (as long as your ad, keywords and site content are in alignment).

    Facebook on the other hand enables you to profile audiences by a bewildering number of criteria. Selling tickets to a music festival, you can target fans in the city of a particular artist appearing. Have a better BBQ tong? Target people within a 20km radius who like BBQing. In both cases it is unlikely your prospects are actively searching for your product, but you can put the suggestion in front of them - so you're reaching audiences you wouldn't with search.

    Far more crucial than "which platform" is using each platform for its strengths - the better you know and target your market - and your page is good at conversion, then both platforms have a place.

    I would go with Google as you will get 150$ from them and they are more wide than Facebook itself. Also, some new reports are showing that Facebook is cheating with ads.

    I advice you to start learning about both first , then think on how much money you want to spend.

    For some people here 100$ is more than what they spend in one day so you'll get answers like "no you can"t do it"

    I promoted a page I had on fb spending less than 15$ and the ROI was good. So it doesn't really depend on how much you spend but how do you do it.

    LEarn before you invest in PPC, you'll loose your money if you don't

    It would depend on what business/site/niche you have. I usually prefer google to facebook.
    It's more expensive but gives me more results. Is the "intention" of a user searching for a particular product or service that makes the difference. Facebook is different in this way.
