Why Plenty of Wordpress Websites Change Their Permalinks to .html?

Hello Team

I don't know whether you guys have noticed or not, many websites have changed there WordPress permalinks to .html at the end of the URL.

Does anyone knows about it?

What's wrong with normal permalinks which is %postname%.

I tried to research it lot but could not find out the benefits.

Thanks
Alam

It came from the notion that Google ranked pages with .html slightly better.. probably an outdated SEO idea... if it ever worked to begin with I've no idea.

I've never seen hard data to support it, but if anyone has please share it with me.

Quite a while back (not sure how many years ago) most blogging platforms used urls similar to page.php?post=1&somethingelse=5&date=dd-mm-yy and then someone said that google didn't parse urls past the ? on php pages. Someone else ran with that rumor and said that php coded pages didn't show as high in search results as static html page urls.

This was the basis for a lot of the pretty url business where urls switched to something like site.com/date/category/pagename and after that it was quiet for a while. Apparently someone has been spreading that rumor around again and switching to html urls seems to have picked up steam again as a way to get google to like you better.

As far as how your site ranks your url isn't near as important as people want to make out. This is really just a case of someone saying something and everyone running with the idea without doing any of their own research and just blindly following along.

I was not aware of this permalink trend too.
But maybe they are just additional HTML pages on the site.
For example, I use plain HTML pages on wordpress sites for pages that I expect more traffic for. e.g. squeeze page, sales page.
The reason for this is more about the load on the server rather than SEO.
