Paid membership to WF: What about one-liner posts?

So now that we're back to being a paid forum, where do we stand on the people who post one-liners to boost their post count?

It will still happen.

Do we care? Since they paid to be a member, just like us, do we accept their one-liners and posting "Thanks" or "Nice post" when they could have just hit the "Thanks" button?

Didn't you hear, you don't need 5k posts to do a WSO... :p

      Anyways, more on topic...

The number of these will drop. It will take time before they get really low, as there are still reports circulating that tell people they need to get a certain amount of posts before they can use some parts of the forum.

They will never go away completely, as there will always be the clueless git who assumes that post count means more than how much you type. Those will become background noise, at worst.

That's right. I could (maybe) ask 13,000 questions and end up with a higher post count than Steve Wagenheim. Doesn't mean that I've contributed anything useful.

For now, the "thanks" button is a better measure of the value you've provided.

At least until "thanks" start to be traded and sold. Ten pack of WF "Thanks!" just $4.95, PayPal only.

Just a few minutes ago I was going to report one of those as a violation. When I got to the page there were some rules on what could be reported through the link and the one liner didn't violate the rules. Therefore, I didn't report the post. I think that there should be something to keep people from posting this stuff repeatedly. There is a person doing these online postings like crazy tonight. I think they have posted to almost every first page thread. What can be done?

When you see something like that, just hit the report button. A mod will see it and clip the person if needed..

Well, there is no reason for anyone to up their post count, so this should be reduced. Definitely from what it was.

Also, there is a fine moderating line when it comes to this. Some people want to say something and it doesn't take much more than one line, but they don't mean any harm by it and don't think they are doing anything wrong. And in many cases they actually aren't doing anything wrong at all.

I would say don't be too quick to jump on someone for posting a short reply. Sometimes it's a good person who just doesn't have anything more to say than what they wrote.

Ah hell I'm confusing myself. This takes experience. Leave it to the mods :-)

When does the "Thanks" button appear now? Before, didn't you have to have a certain number of posts before the button was available? If that's the case, some new users wouldn't have that as an option so might have no other choice but to leave a one-liner expressing their thanks.

Not every member of the Warrior Forum is going to be a paid member. The MAJORITY of members will still be free members.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. I'm just saying...don't hesitate moderate any differently than you have in the past because most people are still free members.

Also, if a paid member decides to act like an a-hole, don't hesitate to moderate their posts either.

People are still expected to act like grown ups, even if they have upgraded to paid status. No one person is bigger than the WF regardless of whether they've paid $37 (or whatever it is now) or not.

Also, the ones that are out to boost their post count with one-liners aren't usually bright enough to leave it at "nice post" or "thanks". Most of the time they'll spew something that doesn't make any sense. You would think that would be hard to do with a one-liner, but somehow they get it done.

Dan, you should remove that idea real quick, before the thanks feature is rendered useless around here.

I am completely new to Warrior Forum. I looked for the Thanks button and could not find one. Maybe it is because I am a free member right now. Maybe because this is my very first post.

Doesn't matter. At this point if I want to say thanks then it will have to be a one-liner. Although I doubt this will happen.

It wasn't my idea. It was brought up in another thread earlier in the week. So, the idea is already floating around out there...

Not every one-line-poster is a spammer. I mean I often post my replied in 1 or 2 lines and it's just 'cause I don't want to write a whole 100 paragraph to explain my point which I can easily do in a single line or two.
