Default Google keyword tool numbers

In the lists of numbers, one states local search, and another one states global monthly search. I have always assumed that if you are targeting something that can be sold world wide, then the total of these two numbers is your search volume.

Am I understanding this right? Will the various sites that Google has around the world distort the possible volume of search that I might attract? Or should I just concentrate on the one column of numbers?

I normally focus on the local search
volume of the current month. But
never ignore the global monthly
search volume which is the average
search volume per month over
certain period of time.

You can display the search
volume trends to see whether
the trend is increasing or increasing
or consistent over time..

I use the global search. I think it gives you a better overall picture.

Personally I like to focus on the local. I think its better to focus on a smaller piece of the pie first that you know better IMHO. It especially depends on simple things like petrol vs gas cards - this would be more important with regards to local stats. I would also just throw out that the stats are definitely far from perfect. Use them to get a general idea and then TEST TEST TEST
