Is there a failproof way to avoid website downtime?

I am curious if there is some way to make sure a website never goes down. For example - if you own 2 hosting services, and keep updated wordpress data for your site on each (is this easy to do?) - then could there be an automated way to immediately transfer the DNS to the other host if one host is ever down?

How can we make sure we don't miss out on conversions when our hosts go down or get attacked?

I don't think there is any solution to that beside getting a good host.

Hi.

I don't think that using the DNS transfer method will give you a 100% uptime because there is always a propagation delay when the DNS information gets updated. Sometimes this is quick, other times it can take hours.

I believe if you want 100% guaranteed uptime you will need to find a host that offers a mirroring of their main server. When the main server goes down, the mirror gets switched over immediately so theoretically you'll have zero downtime.

Google "100% uptime for websites" and you'll find several hosting services that offer that feature. Be prepared to pay for that extra service, though.

The more high end you go the easier it will be. There are such things as fail over. Talk to your host about that.

Well...I was thinking of using these guys: DNS Made Easy - Enterprise Global IP Anycast DNS Services.

You change your dns to them...Then I think you put your two servers in there....When it notes one server is down...it will redirect to the other one. I have not tried these guys, but was thinking very seriously in the past...

has anyone used these guys?
