Videos Are Great But..........

Hi,

Just a note to let some marketers know that everyone still cannot access videos. I am still on dial up............way out in regional Oz and satellite regardless of what they say doesn't work here. Nope wireless is not available either. We are in no-mans land regarding what we can access.

I get so frustrated when I am looking forward to seeing something and darn it is a video. I really like the ones where some marketers (obviously had people like me) have put up a transcript that I can download.

So, when you are all hell bent on uploading videos, give us dial uppers a thought and put up either a transcript or let us download the video to play on our own computers. It would be much appreciated.

    FYI - I haaate video presentations, it way too too slow a way to convey information. I can read three times faster at least and have the luxury of instantly going back over points I want to brush up on. I can also take it with me to read anywhere, anytime, anyplace. Sorry video promotion guys, you lose, I ditch 99.9% as soon as I see them.
    In addition, any web user in New Zealand outside of towns and cities is on dial up. Very few country residents can afford the 1000 dollar satellite link.
    Australia is probably the same - the population of Los Angeles in a country bigger than the USA, there's no way to provide services to a place that's so empty it marks homesteads on world maps.

    you´re right...before i changed my connection i had the same problems...

    but it´s a great marketing method..that people understand much better than reading a stupid 100000 words salespage...

    But i understand your point

      Thanks for posting on my pet peeve again. It can't be said often enough: "Stop using video where it's not needed... or at least provide a text alternative!"

      I buy a lot of WSOs. Most are great and I have no complaints about the content. But why, oh why, must you always use video? Because it's "the thing to do"?

      Why not ask first if video is the most effective way to transmit your information. Nine times out of 10 it's not.

      Honestly, I can read 10 times faster than most videos. And it's not just the time issue. It's really frustrating sitting through countless ummms and ahhhs and stupid anecdotes about the cat...

      PDFs with screenshots are the way to go!

    I usually do a PDF and video tutorials. Satisfies everybody that way. There's really no excuse not to use both - not when there are plenty of easy to learn video screen capture products out there. Some are pricey (Camtasia), but others are very inexpensive (Jing Pro) and will produce nice video quality without a steep learning curve.

    I always try to make the ebook a stand-alone product, exactly for the reasons the OP and others mentioned. It's basic Marketing 101. Why cut out a portion of your target market when technology makes it easy to cater to everyone?

      Thank goodness for some "savvy" marketers. Yep, when I find it is in video, I just X out as all I hear is one word then a long pause. Then another word then another long pause. Too frustrating! Transcripts are definitely needed.

    Yeh a lot of High end course that i have bought have transcripts and pdfs with the videos.

    The demand is high for video. Its easier to follow and implement. Next will be LIVE video courses. technology is always advancing dial is going to hold you back big time.

    For certain things I love video presentations, but for others they aren't my thing as I read faster than the video plays. When producing a product, the goal should be to make it accessible and desirable by everyone. The best way to do this is to make text available as well as video.

    Personally, I find some audio presentations to be perfect for my needs as I can continue working on my projects while I listen to the info... I don't have to take my eyes off my stuff to watch a video or read a PDF.

    I can imagine how frustrated you must get but this is the way it is these days.

    Trends change, technology moves on (for most of us) and many IMs (myself included) like videos. It's proven that they really are an affective marketing medium and it is alot easier to watch a 5 minute video than read an 8 page sales letter.

    Bummer for you, though

      Yes, I know technology moves on (well in some places) but you are still leaving a lot of money on the table if people can't access the video. Now I guess the question is how many of us are there around the world that can't access the video eh? I think maybe more than most marketers would like to believe. Every sale counts.

    Dial-up... I feel your pain :-)

    I just came off a 5-day cruise where internet was not only
    painfully slow, but it cost $24 per HOUR to access the
    ships satellite connection.

    I do understand why some people use video so much
    though... they are often only going after certain segments
    of the market, and are willing to forgo sales from those
    still on dial-up. It's like offering a piece of software that's
    only compatible with certain operation system.

    Some marketers have even largely moved away from
    text sales letters, to video sales letters. Many get better
    results with video sales letters.

    It's an interesting dilemma.

    As a buyer I much prefer ebooks. In fact, I much prefer real books - so convenient and paper has that more satisfactory feel to it.

    As a seller I much prefer video. So much quicker to produce and it really works for a large sector of the audience for whom reading has gone out of fashion.

    Ideally I could produce both, but I'd much rather produce the video (even if for a smaller audience) and get on with the next project sooner. The return per hour is higher that way and the production process more interesting.

    Im at Springfield Lakes - about 20 mins from our MAJOR capital city, and we have only just had access to broadband services in the last 12 months. Before then was dialup, which I had to painfully endure for years.

    Hi Nathan,

    No, cost is not a factor, we have a satellite dish...........it was intermittant to say the least. Every time there was a large grey cloud poof! loss of service. Spoke to the provider (we don't have a huge selection of providers) who couldn't or wouldn't fix the problem. In the end, we stopped the service as I was having to use dial up just to connect anyway. I was doing Santa Letters at the time and couldn't afford to have sales not come through! If I go to my daughters I can use her wireless connection and WOW! So I know what can happen with the whiz bang technology.
