Kindle Publishing Question

Hey everyone, I just launched my first book on KDP last week and my free promotion starts on tomorrow. but I got some questions.. My questions are

1. I only have 1 review so far, and have given my book out to people in various FB groups around my niche as well as emailed it out to friends and family. sales have topped out at 4 day and now i am just getting 1/day, however the last 2 days i have gotten zero.. getting very frustrated with these results. How can I get more reviews?

2. Should I be focused on having a landing page for this book, I have 2nd book coming out in a different niche next week, can I use the same landing page for both (all) my books?
Any suggestions would be great!

Are you being aggressive in asking for reviews? Most people won't take the time out of their day to give a review (work is involved) unless the book really affected them or provided them with a specific workable solution to their concern.

I wouldn't - especially if the books are not related. Stay focused on the project at hand. If your book is very closely related to another book you wrote (like one of a series of 10 books on the same subject) then you might get away with it; otherwise you'll be confusing the prospect as he/she will likely have no interest in your other book.

I'm not saying you shouldn't cross-promote your other titles. I'm saying give each book a stand alone presence. You wouldn't put two sales letters on the same web page, would you? Don't do it with landing pages either.

Thanks Steve, I guess my follow up question is for someone who is just getting things off the ground, should i be focused on setting up landing pages and all that or just focused on making my books sell first and foremost?

I outsource the reviews part to virtual assistants that find reviews for me. I usually pay $2 per verified review. I could literally get 1000 reviews during a free promo if I wanted to.

You also want to make sure your title is optimize for your keyword. Little tricks like putting your keyword as soon as possible in the title make a big difference. Your description is also important, your cover etc.

I also use VA (European Virtual Assistant Agency (http://vafromeurope.com/) help in my work, basically to save time (but not for reviews).
Speaking about "only 1 review so far", maybe it's passed a short period of time since presentation and people just hadn't enough time to read your book.
Be patient and continue promotion through social media networks.

It is against Amazon terms of service to pay for reviews. As well as unethical, if the payment is not disclosed.

      Actually, no it is not.

      Depends how you do it.

I'm paying for a virtual assistant to do reviews exchange for me.

It's like paying someone to go ask someone to review the book for me.

It's like if a bestseller hire a team of people to find people that will read his book for free then in exchange they will review the book.

      It is perfectly legal.

Ever noticed how all best-sellers out there always have tons of reviews from famous authors? That's exactly what they do.

Are you using Fiverr for that or upwork? Any tips would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Emeka,

I use VA's from Upwork.com and pay them $1/verified review. This's how kindle publishers that make lots of money do it. I learned it from the Kindle Publishing Course I'm currently taking.

....and now you are also teaching it?

Let me get this straight - you are promoting your book on "Kindle" and advising people to pay for cheap reviews....which is directly against the Amazon Kindle TOS???

You can't make this stuff up.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

      Hi Kay King:

I do agree. Of course, there are different rules when you are a big established author with an awesome name. Then the rules for commoners do not apply to you. Often those few nasty negative reviews are soon gone.

However, if you are a little author like me. Then amazon got rid of a three star review even. I can understand a five star, but a three star hurts me. It was from a famous author and it would have helped my book sales, but that company is mean.

BTW, they have never remove my one star reviews ever. "Diz BOOK sux!" Those stay until hell freezes over. They claim to have an algorithm that can tell if a review is genuine. Good luck with that one. Frankly, I do not like amazon. They crushed the friendly little bookstore on the corner.

There's a big list of free (& paid) book promotion sites here that you can submit your book to which will aid in getting more reviews on these 2 sites -

76+ Places to Submit Your Free KDP Select Promotion for Your Kindle eBook - Training Authors for Success ( a list of Facebook groups for promotion is in another blog post on the site as well)

https://kindlepreneur.com/list-sites...-amazon-books/ (loads slow for me at the moment)

Create several "different" tweets for Twitter with 2-3 hashtags & ask for review (Kindly review - THX, Please give a review, etc...). Use hashtags like #BookGiveaway #FreeReads #FreeBook #KindlePromo as well as those related to your book like #motivation #habits #habitbuilding #discipline #personalgrowth #selfimprovement . Obviously provide a link to your page on Amazon.

I realize your KDP free promotion is over but if I recall you are able to do a free promo every 90 days.

I've also made a recent decision to write a book & have done a bit of research regarding Kindle & paperback marketing. There are some excellent sites (like the ones above) that will provide great advice. In addition - I also have downloaded several books regarding publishing on Kindle for free at https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-...ding=UTF8&tf=1 . You will find LOTS of useful information from successful authors on the steps they take with each book launch.

I do see common advice among authors to have a blog (with email list) to aid in book promotion.
