For Those Who've Had Success In Internet Marketing

These questions goes out to all those internet marketers who've had success with making money doing Internet marketing of any type.

I'd like to know:

How long did it take you before you made your first sales online?

What type of internet marketing did you do back then?

Are you still doing that type of Internet marketing today?

What all do you really have to learn if you want to be successful with Internet marketing and about how long would it take to learn everything needed to be successful?

Is there anything else I should know about?

After messing about for a bit buying BSOs, I threw up a review blog and started building a list. Within days I'd made my first affiliate commission from a recommendation in a newsletter to my list. Only a few bucks but it was an eye opener as to what could be done.

I don't use that method now. But I do still blog and build email lists, concentrating on getting traffic to my squeeze pages and into a sales funnel.

My advice to new marketers is always start with list building and get a simple sales funnel going. All successful marketers started that way!

Just a couple things. If we answer any of these questions it will not help you. It doesn't matter how long it took me to make my first sale, or what I was doing, or if I'm still doing it. None of that will help you make money or get you any closer to making money. The question that needs to be asked is how can you make money online?

When I saw you have been a member here since 2006, I went back and looked at the threads you've posted. You've posted several threads around the theme "I'm going to get started" and "I'm giving it another try" since 2010. So, my question to you is what have you done? Have you had any success? Why, or why not?

In it's simplest terms all commerce, both online and offline, comes down to a customer having a want/need and a person or business providing a solution via a service or product that satisfies the customers needs. If you can identify a target market, identify their wants/needs, connect with your target market, and provide a solution to their wants/needs then you have everything you need to be in business.

Now, I'll be the first to admin that it's easier said than done. Take it one step at a time.

It took about 5-6 months to get the first sale but I'm still working on the growing phase. Success isn't a destination, its the process, so have fun doing it

I had to wait about 3 months for my first Adsense site to start making money. 7 years ago...

I think it was my own mistake to try to learn everything possible before making the correct moves. The point is that there is always something new out there - new software - new design tool etc. The magic happens when you get up and start doing the work, thats where the money starts coming in

Absolutely. I started building a list in 2009 and never looked back. 95% of my online income comes from promoting other people's products as an affiliate.

IMO, it's a huge bunch of nonsense that you must have your own products. I concentrate all of my efforts on driving traffic to my squeeze page and building my list.

I'm perfectly content to let others so the heavy lifting that comes along with product creation and then just swooping in and grabbing 75% of each sale. It's so easy. And for me, it's been very profitable.

If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to TAKE ACTION and get a funnel set up. It doesn't have to be perfect and it doesn't have to be complicated, and you do not need your own product to do it.

Like I said, just get a domain, some hosting, and autoresponder account, and throw up a squeeze page. Get yourself dug in and then focus on tweaking your page to raise your conversion rate and learn how to drive traffic to to your squeeze page.

You must constantly learn and put time in driving traffic to your squeeze page.

I'm in the "biz opp/make money online" niche, so for me, my main source of traffic is solo ads. They work great for me, but there are literally thousands of legit ways to drive targeted traffic. New ones pop up every day. You just have to sniff them out and don't be afraid to experiment with different forms of traffic.

As far as how long it took me to get to making a full-time income. It took me almost 2 years, because I was stubborn and did not start building my list right away.

That's why I am trying to save you the time and telling you to get that squeeze page up and start getting subscribers on your list. Your conversion rate will probably be terrible at first. It doesn't matter. You will learn how to tweak it and raise it as you go.

The most important thing for you to do is jump in head first and TAKE ACTION, or nothing is going to happen for you.

Hey buddy, first of all, thanks for your explanation... I think there's a ton of value in your reply! (clap clap clap)

Now, my question is, how you build a funnel if you are affiliate? (I'm asking because I'm building my list right now and took a class of email list building [avalanche from paul nicholls] but he says that everything is about "my product", because I need to create a buyer list... the buyer list is what matters yadda yadda...) --- My question here is, how can I make a buyer list if the products aren't mine? What kind of funnel are you talking about? Any good material that you suggest me to study about funnels for affiliators?

        Thank you,
        Leo

    PCdoctor,

With all due respect, you are focusing on the wrong thing and asking questions that have no bearing or significance to your situation.

We are all different, have different talents, skills, resources to begin with, work ethics, time available to do IM, temperaments, etc. We're in different niches, have different products, cater to different audiences, and on and on. What I do or what the next person does has no bearing on you whatsoever.

Getting answers to the questions you've asked may be amusing, but it could also harm your efforts. When folks talk about how easy IM can be, it may make you question what you're doing wrong if you're not successful yet.

Start with finding demand in the marketplace . . . prospects that have money and are willing to purchase solutions to their problems or desires. They will tell you what they want if you focus and listen.

Start catering to these prospects with content that will help them. Get them on your list. Nurture them, give them valuable information in the niche. Answer their questions. Share your experiences in the niche. Develop rapport and a relationship with your audience.

Focus, work with singleminded determination in one niche. Start today. Stop worrying what others have done and are doing because you're not going to do the same and their road to success will always be different than your road.

Spend time on the forum. Observe what's going on here. Learn from those who are successful. Sift through all the opinions and cling to sound advice from members who have been in the trenches and know what they're doing.

    The best to you,

    Steve

Steve is right - you must follow your own path...and while I would never call it easy, it's not super challenging either.

In my case, start was back in early 2000's with affiliate marketing for about 6-months...made my first sale a few weeks into my marketing campaign and built that into a > $1K/month business while working other consulting gigs. My objective was to learn and that worked.

Within a few months of making my first sale in affiliate marketing I began to work on my own digital products (inspired and mentored by Corey Rudl back in the early days who came out with his own ebook "Car Secrets Revealed" - in 2001 I launched (we didn't really call it that back then :-) my first ebook bundle and made over $1K in just 1-week...never looked back and now we have dozens of products.

The way to speed things up (both in terms of learning and results) is to take action...post content, create offers, build a list, build a following, advertise - this will all accelerate your business growth.

If, on the other hand, you sit back and soak it all in, watch, learn and listen but do NOT act, then you will not get results...you must try through taking action to really learn and improve.

yeah I guess its always been mostly affiliate marketing. Back in the day when I got started around 2010 I was using CPV traffic and averaging $450 per day with adsense. Did not know anything about following policies, managing that money or really anything that is required to be able to hold on to it. A lot of fun and one of the most rewarding things in my life. Today's its mostly through my list

What sources would be best to use in learning how to build a sales funnel so I can start building that list? Also during this time, should I be learning how to copywrite as well?

Here's one strategy that worked for me. I found a place where I could get free advertising where a hot market was actively seeking what I was selling. So that made it easy to get traffic. Then once you make a few sales the rest is history. But it's finding that place where you can get the advertising where you can compete.

But back then everthing was so easy. Now I think it's harder because it's far more competitive.

I started over 16 years ago and back then it was like shooting fish in a barrel.

I monetize purchased data using PPL (pay per lead) offers.

I still do the exact same thing, while somethings have changed, but the underlying principles / strategies have remained the same that make it work well. Also when I first started, I created my own PPL offers and now you can just get them from CPA networks.

Your other questions would require too long of as post.

I made money online my first week of trying it, by offering a service I was qualified to offer. I kept offering that service while learning about other things related to IM and trying them.

I've made varying amounts of money using things like affiliate marketing (mostly Commission Junction and Clickbank, but a few "immediate commission" products, too), Adsense, buying and selling websites, buying and selling domain names, writing and selling e-books, etc. I've made money with all of them.

But, the best and easiest money online always comes from offering services, at least for me. I've expanded far beyond my initial one, and now offer several, all based on my years of experience in doing this. I've even coached a handful of people.

It's different for everyone. Some people are rock stars at affiliate marketing, where I struggled to make a few hundred dollars from it. I had more success buying and selling websites and domain names, and it was more fun for me. That's my "median" area. But, for me personally, offering services is my key to making a living online, and I do well at it.

A sales funnel is important to start with, avoid blogging.

I've been blogging for 6 years generated nothing until I met my secret mentor, he helps me set-up a sale funnel and within a week I generated 2 sales,

but at least, this sale funnel works within a week not another 6 years.

My first penny online was through some survey site I did where you'd have to fill a form to get a dollar. I don't consider that "Internet Marketing" but that was my first ever dollar online.

A couple months later I went down the rabbit hole of marketing and decided to start my own blog. In a couple weeks I made my first dollar from ads I had on it.

From there I went on to grow the blog even larger and made my first $100 online. I started another blog during this time aswell.

I got burnt out from constantly writing blog posts so I switched up my business model and started focusing on email marketing and affiliate marketing.

My recommendation is to not look for a magic gem but to study the fundamentals of marketing. Look up people like Frank Kern, Ben Settle, Ryan Deiss and STUDY what they do.

And when you're done studying them, read it over a couple more times till you get it down pact.

Never give up. Take relentless action. Eventually things will 'click' and you'll get results.
