Recommend a Membership Site Solution?

I thought that there was a thread on various membership site scripts/solutions, but I can't seem to find it on the forum anywhere...

Anyhow - I'm looking to start a membership site that will have a free & paid section. The paid section will have access to downloads, videos & articles.

What solutions are out there for this? We tend to use WordPress as a base, are there any wordpress solutions for membership sites that you can recommend?

We've looked at Member Gate, and love everything but the price

We considered using Ning and paid groups through recurring billing with PayPal, but Ning seems to be getting some bad press lately.

Any other solutions that you'd recommend?

    I have a membergate site and love it. Sure the price is a factor but we made it back quickly and I'm so glad for the ease of use and robust features.

    I'm in the process of developing my first site and after looking at several options I've decided to go with the new Dolphin (version 7). It's still in beta but the functionality is fantastic out of the box and with some tweaks it will be perfect. It may be a bit too robust for what you're looking for, but anything you don't need you can disable so it can be as basic or as powerful as you want.

    Hi,

    I use and recommend Wishlist Member in conjunction with my Delavo system (I use this to centralize my membership registrations and re-billing) along with a specific plugin for Wishlist.

    Highly recommended.

    I recommend you check out Amember, it's handled thousands of members for us, and we wouldn't go with anything else to be honest.

    Although I did hear from a friend that he highly recommends Wishlist Member too, like most in this post.
