Is content syndication compatible enough to exist in the modern digital marketing?

Content syndication means that you can allow any third party a permission to post your article on their website or blog. It may sound as an interesting way to boost up your engagement level with your prospect clients but it definitely comes with a lot of drawbacks too.

The worst of all I personally think is that search engine picks up a syndicated content instead of a publisher which means that the main source gets ignored in the ranking race.Other than that it also results in the bypassing of the social media traffic because visitors who like your posted article on a third party site end up sharing that source among their friends and family. This means your site gets ignored in it's entirety which indeed hurts a lot.

These are the common flaws in the fabric of this whole syndication process. Many of you guys use this opportunity a lot to move ahead in this marketing race but have you ever thought about a different approach than this which you think is more effective? Please do share your pearls with this community.

Cheers-James

Let me ask you a question: Why do people put out syndicated content? Obviously because of a link back to their own sites. Or do you think they write stories because they dont have anything else to do.

So why would the " main source get ignored" - links are votes to sites, G counts them, readers
of the syn content go to a main site if they want to read more of that stuff. So the content writer
wins twice. And if the syndication site ranks higher than your own? I dont care, at least my
actual content is out there and sends me visitors to whatever site i do at the moment.....

George your point definitely makes sense for visitors who are thorough throughout the whole search process and go an extra step to trace back to the publisher. I think content syndication works out effectively for marketers who are into selling merchandize to their customers. But if you're a blogger and you share your excerpt on a third party source then there is a higher possibility that people will end up crediting the other guy instead of you.

All you have to do is make sure your content on your site is indexed first before you release it to other publishers. Why is that so hard? Even if you are a newb without much traffic yet, you can set Google alerts for your site to make sure the content is indexed soon after it's uploaded.

Sorry James, I don't agree with this at all. It's easy and should be your everyday practice to put links in your content back to your site so that interested readers can find you if they desire. You want people to share your content on social media as much as possible. I don't know why you would say "your site get ignored in it's entirety" because that just isn't true.

If you have compelling content, and you syndicate it properly, I don't think these are "common flaws" at all. Syndication can spread your content, your links, and your brand around the 'net very nicely. It certainly beats putting content up on your site and hoping "they will come."

Is it a good idea ? No

syndicated get picked first ? Considering that syndicated are really lousy 99.9% of the time, the chances is Google will not pick it first.

release it on your site FIRST then ping it, pin it, share it and tweet it..

then and only then, can you start publishing elsewhere...

Submitting content by 3rd party, website can get back links. If you want to market this link then that 3rd party site will be beneficial more than your site.

First off, there's a flaw in the reasoning here.

Since the Google Zoo took effect, syndicating purely for backlinks is a mistake.

The purpose of syndicating content is to put your stuff in front of someone else's audience. Put it in front of the eyeballs they've worked hard to collect. The links in your content are for people to follow in order to continue a positive experience.

If you accept that, the times your content (published on someone else's site) comes up in search listings is a good thing. It means more potential human eyeballs and more chances for humans to follow your links back to your site..

And this doesn't even touch on other forms of syndication, like reprinted content in ezines, newsletters and print publications. Those audiences would never see your content on a search result even if the link was back to your own site.

Keep your eyes on the prize. Googlebot has never, to my knowledge anyway, bought a product or opted in to an email list.
