Thinking Of Switching To Aweber. Anyone Got Any Advice?

Hey,

I'm thinking of switching my autoresponder to Aweber from a smaller provider. Don't get me wrong, I haven't had any problems with my current provider but notice all the big boys use Infusionsoft or Aweber. The stats available with my current provider are also limited.

It'll be nice to get your feedback on this with regards to positives and negatives and any experiences you may have had with them and whether or not it's right to make the change.

Cheers,

Des.

Because GR was not getting thru to any of my Yahoo emails. So I tested Aweber for a buck and found that it delivered the EXACT same email Messages to the regular inbox at Yahoo and not the junk box !

To me, its like Night and Day. And the results have been very much different for the better.

I switched to Aweber about a year and a half ago. This was one of the best decsions I could have made.

I appreciate their reliability, ease of use and custmer support. There is also a ton of useful information contained about setting up your autosponder and many helpful tutorials. Aweber has my vote.

    Des,

Be aware that IF you switch to Aweber, Getresponse, or any of the "big" boys your subscribers will have to optin...AGAIN! You WILL lose a lot of them in the process.

If you decide to go ahead with the switch send out SEVERAL emails to them telling them you are "upgrading" your email service and that they will need to optin again to continue receiving valuable content from you. One way to "bribe" them is to offer them some sort of free report, or whatever, when they confirm to the new list and service.

I have a few Aweber accounts. I have been with them since 2004 and have never had any problems. My main list is over 100,000 subscribers and every email for 5 years has been sent without a glitch.

Not to mention, they have the best customer support in the business and their deliverability is excellent.

I recently left Get Response after several years. Their upgrade was a disaster! But they hadn't been the best all along. I'd been meaning to go with Aweber but never got around to it...until about a month ago. I don't know what took me so long! It's a million times better! Easy to use, intuitive, you can't go wrong. Plus I think there's a Warrior who still has the Aweber "private label" & you get the old AW prices ($19.95 for 10,000 subscribers).

I use both aWeber and 1shoppingcart and I think they're both great.

I don't have any others to compare them to but I've never had an issue with either of them.

Easy to use and reliable. I can't ask for more than that.

  • To get the maximum number of people switching and opting in to Aweber make sure to email your old list several times and offer them a special incentive to opt in to the new list. If you do it this way you will get almost all of your current "openers" onto your new list--and openers are the only ones that matter anyway.

I'm using Getresponse and thinking of switching too (lack of options, no segmenting, can't email the same message to people who didn't open etc.).

Will definitely move somewhere else (Aweber probably) once my GR account expires.

Use Aweber for a few of our projects, never really had any major issues.

You do get deliverability issues like any other provider, but it's a solid service.

    Aweber for me too!

I have used it for acouple of campaigns recently and it works like a dream - plus you can track everything and find out what works and more importantly what doesn't work.

Also the price is affordable and must pay for itself easily.

I presume you are referring to Infusionsoft as one of the 'big guys.' I want to clarify that we don't mandate that users have to re-confirm their opt-in status. We recommend it, but we offer services to obtain a verified confirmed opt-in list from AWeber and other legitimate email service providers and can override our Single-Opt-In flags to switch them to Double-Opt-In.

This is needed to ensure compliance with the law and to maintain the cleanest possible pools for our confirmed opt-in outbound messages. As a result, we consistently hit a 97%+ delivery rate on those.

There are a number of older Aweber private labels / resellers who still have the old pricing. Check out profollow.com.

The old version of Aweber doesn't include all of the analytics features that Aweber now offers, but would probably be a pretty solid service.

Wow...do you feel the Aweber love? Personally, I don't like Aweber. Their interface for building your campaign is ATROCIOUS. Trying to build a form is confusing and counter-intuitive. It's a real shame that such a big name in the business has the crappiest piece of junk interface that I've ever tried to work with. Seriously.

On the positive side, it sounds like the deliverability is better than GR, and after all, even if the interface is junk and it takes twice as long to perform any useful function, if your message ends up in your customer's inbox vs. the spam folder, I guess it's technically better.

So....if you can stand the crappy campaign builder, go with Aweber.

Here's a thought: some Warriors are affiliates for AWeber - why not use their link to join and help a fellow Warrior out?

[Note: I'm not an affiliate so can't help you personally like this. But surely someone would like your click?]

      Hope this helps,
      Dot

PS - I have used AWeber for several years. This is one area where you want to start with the best from the get-go so you don't have to sweat the re-opt-in issue and inevitable decline in your list size when you change.

They have deliverability issues like anybody else.

We have a little 5 part program which goes out, we have a never ending stream of people who say they didn't get part "x" where "x" varies.

We ran numerous tests and seeded the lists, we experienced similar issues and they were not in spam filters etc.

I would say they are better than most, but certainly not flawless.

IIRC, Infusionsoft is what Frank K uses , at some huge cost and with perfect delivery , however the irony is his messages always go to my spam filter, irrelevent of which e-mail address they deliver to.

Nothings perfect, just opt for the best possible solution to fit your requirements.

    Aweber is a good start.

Next step up would definitely be Shopping Cart Software | Ecommerce Software - Interspire and their Email Marketer 5.5 it's what Holly, I and a many other professional IMs use.

The top autoresponder which merges into a full blown marketing engine is Infusionsoft - CRM, Email Marketing, eCommerce, Automatic Follow-up but this one will cost you $300 a month, and that's cheap. Until last month you would have also had to spend $5000 in a set up and commissioning fee.

Email Marketer or Aweber will be just fine up to your first 5,000 prospects/customers.

You can actually turn the double opt in feature "off" in aweber. When you login and go to "My Lists" tab and click on "confirmed opt in" then you can click on the "status" button to turn the double opt in feature off.

Aweber is an excellent auto responder and I recommend it to anyone!

I had a hunch about a very iffy "looking" product:

    FreeAutoresponder.biz

...and whoah, I just checked out the new sales page, and it's much nicer. 6 months ago it looked like woodshed with loud noises coming out of it and no roof or door and I'd say even a missing wall. It was UGLY!

Anyway, I've worked side-by-side with programmers before (I've spent a lot of time as a technical writer), and I kind of had a good feeling, I was using Wordpress, and this was a Wordpress plugin. I wanted to test my market and was already fairly deep into costs, so what the heck? I tried this free plugin.

I hated the name from the get-go. I mean "dot biz?" geeze! Seriously?

But over the months, I've corresponded with the programmer, whose name is Gary, and I must say, he is a dedicated and talented programmer. I upgraded to pro once my list went over 100 people, and the plugin was free up to that point (with support).

I run a growing list of 300 people at Cure Tinnitus Member Community with this plugin, and a list of 400+ people at BioChor- Wollen wir ein BioChor in Wien gründen? as well. Yes, there have been some issues, and Gary has been improving the software quickly and effectively.

My critique of his software is that the documentation needs work, though there is documentation there. Also, I think Gary is a bit of a one-man super-programmer type of show, and he recently dropped off the face of the planet for 2 weeks, while I was having an issue with German language emails.

Still, he resurfaced and told me that not only had he moved homes, but that his office had been robbed!

    ...now here's the amazing thing...

He had properly backed EVERYTHING up, he lost no data, and he is currently working through his support backlog. Excuse me? A programmer smart enough to survive a robbery without a hitch? If my office got robbed, I'd be sunk. I don't have backups of my data out on servers, etc. etc. If my laptop were to get stolen, I would lose a whole lot of work. So, I bring it into my bedroom every night. Gary is smarter than that, and good for him.

I have actually written to Gary requesting that he raise the price of the software. I don't know what it costs right now, something like $50 or I don't know. I think I paid $44 or $22 for the bargain-basement pre-beta version when it came out.

At any rate, I really think Gary should raise the cost of this software, because not only is it double opt-in, but it sends from my email account, and the confirmation link is on my website. It really feels cool, and I can't believe how much less I'm paying and all these people have to send confirmation links that advertise another company (aweber, etc.)

I have it set to send something like 50 emails per hour. For now, that's all I need. Not sure how this software works for lists of 100,000, however, for someone starting out or running a list growing into 4 figures (which is the experience I can attest to), this software is working GREAT for me.

You can drop Gary an email and ask about how his software performs with larger lists, if you want.

Otherwise, I did make my above link into an affiliate link (it came automatically with the software), though I almost didn't and usually don't. But I'm just growing into the thought that affiliate links, with the right feeling behind them, are real endorsements of a product, and that they are actually OK.

I am being sincere with this post, and though this software is not perfect, it got me started, it works, and it is way way way less expensive than any of the providers that charge monthly fees. I will be very happy when Gary doubles or triples the cost of this software -- or more -- and I do hope that when that day comes, he'll hire a team as super as he is to help him out.

Here's the link again, if you want to try out his autoresponder plugin for free:

I have used monster-responsder, getresponder and aweber in the past.
And the best I have come across is aweber (just using).

Their interface is most user-friendly and simple to test. Never have problem getting my emails to send out, it's end up nicely on the inbox as well.

Where my monster-responder get my mail end up in customer junk box. I don't like getresponder because there I have some problem with the email delivery from getresponder. I dislike their design as well

I have found Aweber is generally OK although sometimes queued broadcast emails do not go out on time. They have been sent 40 mins to 1 hour late and there's nothing you can do about it (even if you ring them). So if you have time dependent broadcasts it's not the most reliable.

Therefore if i was going to pick a new one i'd go for Infusionsoft, i've heard great things about it and you can do a lot more (splitting etc) of your data.

I use AWeber, and I have never had any problems with them.

There are problems with deliverability once in a while, but more than 90% of my emails get delivered every time I broadcast a message to my list.

Aweber also has great video tutorials, and it is very easy to set up a list in a few minutes. It also has great service for tracking clicks and performing split tests with your emails.

Currently, Aweber costs me about $19/month, which I think is pretty cheap for the service they provide. Plus, they also have an affiliate program, so you could recover your monthly payment by promoting your Aweber affiliate link to people who are looking for a professional autoresponder system.

In the future, I might need to get a more expensive service, but so far I am sticking to Aweber.

      Take care,
      Aitor
