Hi, I am looking to create a Wordpress site for a niche I'm quite interested in with the aim of eventually going down the route of affiliates & Google adsense to try and generate a bit of cash. Creating content and Wordpress development I'm fine with - I've run personal blogs before but not to make any money, just for fun, so the monetizing element is quite new to me. I am now looking into web hosting and was wondering if there's any kind of particular hosting I should be looking at for the website or will basic hosting do it? Also, are there any providers that you'd recommend?

Thanks!

Don't run for a cheap web hosting company, it may kill your dreams...
I always prefer the market leader like host gator and godaddy

That's the right decision and starting with Adsense and Affiliate as both are the best route in my opinion to monetize your site.

There are tons of web hosting company claiming to be the best. I suggest to stick only with the reputable ones. I personally recommend DotEasy, this is a reputable company with A+ BBB rating. Others chose HostGator, SiteGround, etc which is good as well.

I choose DotEasy because they offer Pure SSD with very reasonable price. It loads fast with SSD hosting and their customer service is absolutely great. You need just basic hosting account to start with. You can always upgrade later if required.

    Good Luck!

I highly recommend you to avoid EIG owned hosting companies. For best WordPress hosting you can go with siteground, liquidweb, wpengine, etc.

I would recommend digital ocean but you have to get your own cpanel. Its a VPS so you han host multiple sites on one plan. The 5$ one can accomodate up to 10 sites with average traffic. Another good one is WPengine, a bit more expensive but they host WordPress sites very well.

+1 for digitalocean. If you know what you're doing with development, digitalcean is sweet. Plus, you could PM/ask this nice gentleman to send you a referral link so you both get bonus credit

Basic hosting is enough for a simple blog or site.

I've used Hostgator and iPage without problems so far. I've heard only bad things about GoDaddy so I've never used them.

WebHostingHub.com is my current hosting service. After much research and angst about moving 5 websites from hostgator, I chose webhostinghub and began the move in July. I chose their middle of the road option which included their tech staff moving 3 of my sites, I then moved the other two.

The set up is a bit different than HG's WHM which took me a bit to get used to but the pricing was right and the customer service has been very responsive.

Haha... no more hosting war please :/ I would suggest do a little research on the google search for different hosting provider reviews, I've been using cloudways, and happy with it.... running up to 10 websites and 6 of them have google absence approved and working perfectly fine with no issue.

    Hi Laurenamy93,

I don't have any recommendations as to web hosting providers but, check out Google Host Providers Worksheet yourself as a base to compare and contrast amongst the many web host providers. I believe that is a good place to start for you.

    Good luck

Go with big ones. I've been using Hostgator, Namecheap, and Bluehost for years with no problem, but my web traffic is low and I'm not hosting videos etc.

One of my friends got a cheap hosting plan from a smaller provider, try to got register 2 days with documents like ID, passport, bills etc. to only find out that there is even no automatic install tools for Wordpress and other CMSs and PHP version on the machine was two years behind.

I have used all hosts since early 2000's....stay away from:

    hostgator, godaddy

    Bluehost is ok

Funny enough, I'm with namecheap now, absolutely fantastic, they solve problems in minutes, just like hostgator used to.

Best way to check is get on live chat and see how long it takes them to answer, hostgator very long time(sometimes an hour), namecheap.com I'll bet you less than 5 minutes, anybody try, you will see

    Hey

Just like mentioned above hostgator is one hosting service a lot of peeps on here recommend so I would check them out and go with that

In regards to affiliate networks, Amazon is probably going to work better dependand on the type of niche of your website. You may be able to drive traffic through reviews and then affiliate the products.

However I feel you should really aim to get an audience through quality content first then maybe affiliate. BUILD THAT LIST!! and then focus on bringing out your own products to sell to that list and future customers. That's where your monies at.

    I hope this helps

Well, I'm going to send you in a whole other direction. When I started into IM I used the big boys, go daddy, host gator, etc. and that was fine. One day I thought, "Why can't I host my own sites. How hard can it be?" I signed up for a reseller account which provides me with plenty of space for my sites, plus I host a few friends, save them money (I don't charge much). The money I save from not having to get hosting each time I set up another site plus the little bit I get from friends pays for the account. And I can host my church's site for free! Just my thoughts.

This is not a recommendation but, I will expose my experience with the service that I had with Hostgator and Hostmonster. You decide...

    Hostmonster: Shared Server.

    PROS:
    Fair Pricing
Able to Upload Third Party Scripts without blocking

    CONS:
    Support horrible: takes to long

    Overall Experience:
    Good

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hostgator: Shared Server:

    PROS:
    Discounted. Great Price
    Chat is very prompt

    CONS:
All my third party script links were blocked
    Constantly on Chat
Required to white list third party linksRefund period is 45 days or less.

I used Hostgator for 25 days which I paid around $140.00 and asked for a refund due to my "CONS:" Hostgator refunded me $57.00.

    Overall Experience:

    Horrible!

There’re many big guys in hosting industry that you can rely on, however according to me, there’re 3 big guys that I usually use to host number of websites on them. 3 of them are Godaddy, iPage and Namecheap.

With Godaddy, I usually get big discounts via email, the most percent discount I’ve got are 30% off and 25% off on new orders. More, they have a very professional and comfortable control panel that can help me much in my domain management. It's very easy to transfer or renew when I need to do. When my domains get expiring, I’ve always get notification by them, that’s very good.

With iPage, currently they’re offering the coupon with a huge discount upto 83% off on hosting, I think that they’re one of the cheapest hosting now. Their support also good and fast. The hosting features are good too, with some unlimited resources such as disk space, bandwidth,…

With Namecheap, they have a very good and friendly support team that can help you almost instantly, I’ve contact them many times and each time was let me very happy and rate them 5 stars in supporting. Namecheap also give monthly coupons that can help you save 10% on domain purchasing and save 25% off on your hosting, VPS purchasing.

So I would like to recommend 3 hosting providers above to you. I hope this helps.

    Good luck to you!

Avoid Dreamhost, Host 9 and another called a small orange. Dreadful companies with very poor support.

I was with Hostgator for some years, but switched recently as I felt they too had gone downhill. I am now with Bluehost and have no complaints. They can be pricey, but I feel are worth it.

First of all you need to understand that reviews refer to someone's experience and when you decide on hosting company you need to base your choice on your own. Company can be good for your friend but not good enough for you.
WP is supported by many linux based providers. So you can chose one of them and ask for test account. After your own tests - start using.

I've been with hostgator for a few years now. Overall they've been reliable. Speed & security is good as well as the customer service & uptime. All in all, most important is to evaluate your needs when making the decision.

PS...whatever you decide, I would not recommend free hosting

That's like asking, "What is the best food?"

Everyone will have a different opinion based on personal preferences and experience. None of which may be right for you.

I see glowing reviews in this thread of companies I wouldn't use if they were the last web host on the Net.

In my experience Godaddy and Bluehost are very reliable. Other companies may be good too. Your choice depends on your needs. I see you want to monetize your Wordpress site. Be careful to choose the tools and other services provided by hosting companies. They may cost you a lot of money but return no results.

LiquidWeb is a different league compared to HostGator, no? We are talking about affordable shared web hosting...

I doubt someone who doesn't even know what is web hosting is going to pay $200/month to host their website.

You can do a Google search for best web hosting for 2016.

Lately I've been experiencing really poor customer service with A Small Orange, and I am looking to move my sites. This company made me realize that support tickets and live chat as the only options for support is, for me anyway, a recipe for disaster.

I am trying to avoid the big companies that have been gobbled up by EIG. (That's why I left Hostgator, but frankly, I've never had the kind of asinine communication with HG like I did with ASO, so, I might actually go back to HG if necessary.)

Any advice? I need to be able to get shared hosting, monthly payments as opposed to annually (especially when I don't know what I'm getting myself into), and phone support 24/7. Easy, eh?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.
