Hey guys, Last night I was signing up for an email newsletter and was met with a bit of a surprise: 1) I entered my name and email 2) Hit Submit. Instead of being directed to the classic aweber/autoresponder page that says "check your email to confirm..." I was taken to this page: ![]() Once I confirmed my email everything was done. I'm 100% that this optin method has a much higher optin rate. Is there a way to make this work with aweber? Can anyone recommend a tool that allows one to create their own autoresponder with this feature built in? I'm not familiar with the technique as I've always used aweber, but this seems better... and still respecting the double optin. Or does it? Any thoughts? |

| I don't doubt that it would have higher opt-in rates, but it's not actually verifying the email address, is it? And some (maybe including Aweber?) might say that the second part of a "double" opt-in is at least partly for that purpose?

Would it be possible to share the webpage? If I were a betting man I would wager that the 2nd 'opt in' is there as a blag and serves no purpose whatsoever. But I haven't tried it . . . |

This isn't double opt-in. Instead, it guards against someone having a typo in their email. There are many sites that have you type in your email twice to verify it's accurately typed. Because this is on a second page, however, it does prevent people from typing in a "nonsense" email address--because most of the time the person entering the nonsense address wouldn't remember what the first one was. |

Yes, it's basically an enhanced single opt-in. Interesting idea, I can see the benefit as it sure will help filter crap (to a point).

If someone put in their best friends email address, all they would have to do is put it in again on the confirmation. With the regular double opt-in method, the friend would have to confirm the email in his email account before he would be put on your list. This way, the chances of getting people that never requested for you email would be smaller. Just my 2 cents. ![]() -Brad

Just enter your email in the pop up and you'll be greeted by the box. It does help to filter crap, but it isn't double optin, as anyone can just enter someone's email in the field and confirm it for them.. and then spam the hell out of them. Oh well. I've heard not using double opt-in causes problems when your list gets big and you begin to have large amounts of complaints.
